The economy is in shambles. 90% of my childhood friends have left the country. One is leaving soon. Young people like us have lost hope in the country while the children of the politicians are finishing their masters and contesting for Local Government Chairmen position. Zik through his newspaper West African Pilot attacked the group calling it a 'Fascist Organisation - promoting ethnic division and tribalism'. 🙃 These were Zik's words about the group: "Henceforth the cry must be one of battle against the Egbe Omo Oduduwa, its leaders at home and abroad, up hill and down dale, in the streets of Nigeria and in the streets of London and in the residence of its advocates. The Egbe Omo Oduduwa is the enemy of Nigeria; it must be crushed to the earth. There is no going back, until the Fascist organization of Sir Adeyemo Alakija [a key leader of the Egbe] has been dismembered." Zik did all of this while being a founding member of the Ibo Federal Union and Lagos Ibo Union which were formed a year earlier in 1944 and 1930s respectively. The audacity and the hypocrisy 😏 Gaslighting was a main tactic used by Zik against Awo and Egbe Omo Oduduwa. These comments are what led to the infamous Lagos Press War of 1948 between Zik's West African Pilot and the Daily Service Newspaper and are the roots of the ethnic tension we see today. Isn't it funny how you can be born and raised in Edo, school in Edo, work and pay taxes in Edo. But because your parents are from Kogi, you have to contest election in a place you're less familiar with than in the place you've called home your entire life.
