I have always had money. Meaning, I would always set my expectations to match my resources. You could never tell I was broke, because, in my mind I was not broke. Rather than go out and prove to the world that I am broke, I would simply sit at home and enjoy solitude from enforced penury.

Social media has re-wired my brain to absorb the documented drama of life's anxieties in short pungent bursts. Books and long movies are out the window of nightmares, just video content, a lot of them honestly trash, but once you find a few good ones, you follow them and you are good. Some carry the punch of a good novel lmao. I love watching many Nigerians like Winnie Chukwuemeka, she reminds me so much of Sam Loco Efe, her improvisation skills are impeccable. She is good. I could watch her forever lol.

Nigerians have an infinite capacity for tolerating abuse. They are not a serious people. Praying and drinking peppersoup and hoping for deliverance, that is not a strategy.

It's interesting, I interact with my relatives and friends daily on WhatsApp, they rarely ever talk about politics. They just want to make it through the day. They call it a hustle. Government is a mere nuisance to them. Nigerians use religion, alcohol and social media to stem the hurting and the bleeding inflicted on them by their leaders and thinkers. You see them on social media drinking, dancing and thanking Jesus for another day. They should be on the streets fighting their oppressors! 04-23-2025

I am retired now, and last year I thought, I would go home and just chill for a couple of months. It was rough. I do go home every now and then, but I'd never stayed this long. I should have planned the trip better. I have been away for almost 44 years, and my system has been used to a certain planet. Everything about and in me was stressed. Nigeria is a different planet. I did not attempt to replicate my comfort and lifestyle that I enjoy in the US. I stayed in rough and tumble places. It's hard if you do that. It's tough to think, to function, you are swamped with trying to make it through the day, seeing as you are deprived of what are basic services back in the US. Light, water, good roads, security, they are luxuries there. I have said this before, in Nigeria, no matter how wealthy you are, you are basically poor. Things need to change in Nigeria, the place needs a hard reset and a Marshall plan to replace the inchoate and decaying infrastructure and services. I stayed the entire two months, I was too lazy to try to change my flight, I would have done so. Would I go back? Absolutely. This time, I'll simply pay for comfort, I am too old to immerse myself in the drama of incompetence. I'll go back for the spirit and the camaraderie. My friends and relatives were incredibly generous and I did not lack, but I could tell they were struggling to keep up with my spiritual, emotional and physical needs. America had defanged me and I could no longer thrive in Nigeria's jungle. Our leaders and their enabler-intellectuals should be lined up and taught a lesson, if you know what I mean. Disgraceful lot. Sadly, there is no sugarcoating it, Nigeria is in very bad shape. And I speak from professional experience having worked with municipal government in the US for decades. Any attempt to gloss over the mess that is Nigeria is not merely dishonest, it is cruel. Nigeria needs a cultural and structural reset, one that this version of "democracy" cannot offer. Nigerians have no idea how badly they are being governed. And you don't have to go to the West to see that. Just go next door, to an African country. It's so sad. The two months I spent there, I lost total respect for our politicians and their enabler-intellectuals. They are all grifters.

I prefer reading non-fiction to fiction. It is all fiction anyway. Fiction is the truth, the maddening reality of our false lives. I might as well read fiction. Because it is non-fiction. It is the truth. Who cares? Read, just read.

That anyone is even remotely flying this silly kite of recycled pretend-rulers and their cheerleaders shows how unserious Nigerians are about their future. Na una sabi!

#AmericanDiary #BigLion is depressed. This week, he had to go to the cardiologist to be cleared for his upcoming dental surgery. He will be put under anesthesia and they want to be sure he can handle it! A whole lion! American doctors play too much! The cardiologist was very nice, after 15 minutes, he billed us $1,099. He said we should come back in six months for a follow up visit. We are not coming back. The oral surgeon has assured us that #BigLion needs to have major dental work done. All this will cost $2,300. Thank Onugo I am not the owner. Ominira is paying. Wetin I dey take dog do? The devil is a liar! I am a poor pensioner for Onugo's sake! I don't know how Ominira the owner is going to pay for all this. May Onugo give her strength! The insurance company wouldn't pay, they said these are "pre-existing conditions." Criminals! Me, I am a poor pensioner, if I had $4,000, what would I be doing in Trump's America? I would be in Festac holding forth under a mango tree, while cradling a glass of fake cognac.🥰 The 419 that is in America, Nigeria dey learn for their hand! BTW, this #BigLion is becoming a drama queen like his owner o (Ominira is the owner!), the other day, he held up his paw and started limping all over the place demanding that I take him to the emergency room, he is dying, whine, whine, whine! Omo! The week before we had paid $800 for routine lab work. I would have paid that one but I was in the bathroom when the bill came and they called Ominira on the phone and said, your daddy is refusing to come out of the bathroom, we need to close out this account, Ominira had to pay! She is not speaking to me, she says I embarrassed her. Well, she is not as embarrassed as myself, you should have heard this lion wailing at the vet's office simply because they were injecting him with something that would save his life. We could all hear him in the waiting room and white folks were pointing at me and laughing and lying thusly, "Is that your dog, he's adorable, poor thing!" #BigLion is not a dog please. I don't know how #BigLion survived in the jungles of Pennsylvania! Our vet na 419. We need a new vet. Whenever the vet is broke, they call us for "routine visit." SMH! About his limping leg? I assured #BigLion the pain would go away, he should take it like the strong man he is, we are not going to the ER, for what??? For another $8,999? Hell NO! The pain went away! 😎🕺🏿🕺🏿🤸🏿🤸🏿 Miracle nor dey tire Jesus! ❤️
