USD has been blessed with coaches who come to Vermillion, fall in love with the town and the community, and pass up better jobs so their families can thrive. Wagner was one of those coaches. I feel for his family, but thankful for the joy they have brought ours.

His teams set up batting cages on Coyote landing, spent a year practicing inside an old warehouse off campus, spent another year driving to Sioux City for practices and made numerous trips to Yankton. But they won anyway, and created their best recruiting pitch these last weeks.

Incredible news out of South Dakota as 2x nat'l champ Robert Wagner has been informed his contract will not be renewed. This after reaching the peak of the Summit, going toe-to-toe with the No. 1 team in the nation, and leading the Coyotes to their first NCAA tournament victory.

This is what transformational programs do. The moment here was about far more than just a game. It was an expression of belief, confidence, and investment in a young person’s future. Long after the final score is forgotten, moments like this remain. They shape identity. They build confidence. They remind someone they matter. Too many programs have lost sight of what this is really about. @SDCoyotesSB clearly has not. #BeTheDifference
