@epnohelty Barnes, Hong, Roys, Crowley all cogs in Dem engine. Rodriguez, Hughes and Brennen in the shadows, need to step forward. Hong is the best with social media, part of the reason she’s gaining traction.

@BoldCoastCap I’m guessing (hoping) it will pick up post spring elections. But yea, it’s a bit baffling. There’s really no one in this race with any real name recognition so I think they’ll be a lot of undecideds until campaigning really picks up.

"I'm hopeful that we can get something done, but I also am very concerned about the fact apparently not all the tribal nations are with us." Gov. Evers on if he'll sign the online sports betting bill that passed the Senate: "We have to have all the tribal nations involved."

@AJBayatpour Boondoggle. No to taxpayer funds for NIL spend - Subsidization of professional sports. The state of WI should privatize the UW AD.

Open government advocates have criticized language in the NIL bill because it exempts UW from the state's open records law with regard to documents on the "generation, deployment or allocation" of athletic funds. Dems say they could amend that language...in January

Good morning from sunny, snowy Madison. This is expected to be the final regular Senate session of 2026. Dem leaders just shared they expect to provide votes needed today to pass bills legalizing online sports betting and providing state funds to boost UW athletics' NIL spending

That’s fine if your comments fairly represent the situation. Pushback could be related to racism…but that certainly wasn’t the case in WFB and your comments regarding that similar situation were off base. Shorewood is a more liberal version of WFB. Maybe let the situation play before launching an array of incendiary comments.

@mangeladineen @BoldCoastCap Not smearing anyone. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and trust me, they made them heard (often by yelling and interrupting the meeting last night). I’m not calling anyone racist, rather I’m explaining how their actions reinforce Milwaukee’s segregation.

Ever wonder why the Milwaukee metro is one of the most segregated in the country? Tune into the Shorewood Village Board meeting right now. 1/

This point is valid. However, Witt and Marcus also are biased voices, with self interests that cloud their statements. The key question is whether it’s strategic to keep two outdated buildings in place on one of the most valuable blocks in the city. The current buildings are not utilizing the land to its fullest. That’s not a wise long term strategy for MKE.

I think there's also a larger issue here of public agencies producing clearly BS studies to advance their own goals. Pretty clearly happened with WisDOT and I-94, sure seems to have happened here with WCD and the Miller High Life Theatre.
Dan Shafer@DanRShafer

Wisconsin Center District CEO Marty Brooks has been in the news for, uh, a few reasons lately. On the business side of that, Gary Witt is accusing Brooks of having his "thumb on the scale" with a recent report suggesting to tear down the High Life Theatre to build a new hotel.

@IsaacRowlett You also asserted that WFB was anti affordable housing and had no clue as to the actual discussions and problems surrounding the developer. You just need to relax and rest assured that folks will be open to ideas. Let transparency run its course.

@BoldCoastCap Not only am I letting them be heard, I’m sitting in the room listening to them. I’m sure they are good and well-intentioned people, I’m just hoping to put this meeting in its appropriate historical context.

@IsaacRowlett Correct me if I’m wrong, Shorewood is one of the densest communities in the state and exhibits all kinds of YIMBY qualities. Residents have concerns. Let them be heard and don’t be so self righteous.

Use the link below to see how a small but vocal minority of residents try to block affordable homes from being built in affluent neighborhoods. Here's to hoping the Village Trustees find the courage to continue making Shorewood a more welcoming and affordable community. 🤞🏻 3/

@BoldCoastCap Cities combine fire departments without losing control. I think schools are the same. Grant County has 6,731 students in -10- districts. Imagine if, like, Stevens Point schools were run by 10 different governments.

Leaders really need to think creatively about how we partition segments of govt, schools, counties. We are running on an antiquated system and there are many efficiencies to gain if folks are open to modern ideas. First question, “Why does Wisconsin need 72 counties? “. Reduce layers of govt, reduce redundancy.

@TomDaykin Many cities will lose a high school at least, maybe all of the schools. More students will turn to subpar virtual learning. Rural and urban will struggle to keep up with cuts. The state will lose a Representative and electoral vote. We must attract more families and businesses!
