@chude__ I remember Amaechi going around the streets of Port Harcourt on his motorbike. Never knew that was what he was doing 🤔🤔 He was a better governor though. His legacy projects include Eleme junction, Obiri Ikwerre, and Air Force flyovers

Thank you for all the replies, people. A few topics that have arisen that are important and my (very non expert) thoughts on these: 1. The Mineral Deal: The reason why the mineral deal is an important precursor to a peace deal is that once the US is in business with Ukraine, the US will defend these significant business interests, militarily if necessary against any further Russian aggression. A deal allows the US to economically justify further military and financial support to Ukraine while also being a credible threat to Russians -- an important stick to use with Putin to get a ceasefire and concessions. It is both a deterrent an a good deal for the American taxpayer who has already spent $350B. This is why the post ceasefire “security” questions were likely deflected — because defense of our economic interests ARE the security. 2. Z’s Humanitarian Argument: Z is asking for American citizens to save Ukrainian citizens (see Brett Bier interview). An emotional plea not without merit — many hundreds of thousands have died. But, after 3 years of fighting under the banner of good vs. evil, there is still no end in sight. However, the fact remains that Ukraine cannot win this war against Russia, certainly not without US support. And, the US taxpayer is growing weary not to mention people continue to die every day the fighting the good fight continues. T sees peace negotiations simply as a two parties, each with a basket of interests, who may be able to come to some agreement if rational. The fact that Z was today pushing the good vs. evil, humanitarian argument only, demonstrated to T that he is “not ready for peace”. 3. What’s Next: Ukraine, for as much as it likes to consider itself part of Europe, is not an EU member or a NATO country. EU nations and NATO countries have to adhere to many high standards in the political, legal, governance, defense and economic realms (too many to enumerate here). Ukraine is extremely corrupt country. Its score is 34 out of 100 (the lower being worse) — for context, Georgia is 64, India 39, Brazil 36, China 42, Kazakhstan 32. It would take many reforms (and time) to evolve to the NATO standard (score 63 on avg) with Turkey (34) and Albania (32) as statistically significant very low outliers and US as high outlier. (Turkey and Albania are very good case studies for why NATO cannot accept low scored nations). This is all to say, regardless of the humanitarian issues, Ukraine can act like it deserves NATO level protection to fight its good vs. evil war, however clear the moral argument is, but it is a very problematic government and unfettered US aid may not really help “win". I think we will see the T administration flex its muscles to immediately pull aid to Ukraine after today’s fiasco. Some people will call that bullying, and some people will say that it's the “tough love” necessary to get Z to truly understand his negotiating position. I believe it’s the latter. Regardless, every day that goes by without a peace deal, more people die.

If you watch the full Trump-Zelensky press conference, it is very clear that Zelensky, not Trump or Vance, became the antagonist. Both POTUS and VP were very respectful and cordial until Zelensky very publicly ignited a firestorm. It all starts at 40:30 1) Zelensky essentially rejects how VP described the mandate of POTUS to conduct foreign affairs, and he insinuates that Trump term one did nothing to stop Putin. 2) He then basically tells Vance that his ideas are faulty and that the administration's diplomacy won't work. These two comments are *deliberately antagonistic.* Everything was all well and good, but Zelensky took two major shots in a public forum, and they had to respond. And respond they did. Recall, this is the guy who interfered in our electoral politics and called VP "too radical," and bashed Trump in an interview with New York Mag weeks before the election. Zelensky is ENTIRELY at fault here. 100%.
