I'm sorry, but this is the most ridiculous shit ever. Race swapping Chani has killed all immersion in Dune. Arrakis and the Fremen were never written as a melting pot. Frank Herbert gave them clear ethnic logic. Changing Chani’s heritage breaks the story, the Fremen culture, and internal world consistency. You destroyed that world when you chose tokenism over storytelling. Dune deserved a better adaptation.

But you did claim that Black people "obsess over" White people's inventions of piano and guitar, though remember? Because apparently, since I'm Black and I use that tool {Picture of me, in the studio inserted} ...I'm obsessing over "White people's" invention, instead of using a tool to create music. I find this incredibly crass, petty and bitter. It should be beneath you to suggest this. Afterall...I would never suggest that Bluegrass artists (I love Alison Krauss & Union Station) obsess over a Black instrument (Banjo). @Grok check me for facts, logic and civility.

@wee_beyLFC @BonesMultiMedia @SeverusChud false. the moors subjugated and enslaved the iberians. the arabs, until 1960, were ADDICTED to slavery. many would say they still have slavery (kafala). islam also bans instruments. bukhari 5590. the guitar has its roots in stringed instruments of ancient world.

@Priddy_Unusual @OldeWorldOrder Of course you'd ignore anything that is conciliatory towards Black people. Good thing we know how to separate the good White people from you. Yes, Sinners got Irish Dancing trending and Black people love it.

@BonesMultiMedia @SeverusChud Showed up? No, REPLACED. Why couldn't they just add another tribe or something? You're either a logical person and you see my point, or you're bitter and ashamed of your inferiority and want Whites ELIMINATED so you don't have to work through those feelings anymore.

My point...holistically speaking: 1. You anti-woke, source-material purists always attack Black people, (I'm shocked there wasn't any "we wuz" this or that on this thread, mocking us) when we have zero to do with casting. 2. When these IPs go from fan-driven source-material to mass consumption...they will NOT retain the fidelity you expect. The corporations that own them will do whatever they want. You have to learn to let it go. It's a vicious cycle...it has happened before and it will continue happening: you (as a fandom) do the legwork to make something popular, you make the author absurdly wealthy...that author (or their estate if they die) sell the IP to a monster-sized studio, that has ZERO interest in pleasing original fans.

@BonesMultiMedia @SeverusChud Because ethnicity is apart of the story. It's the same issue people have with rings of power and how modern "diversity standards" can't help but ruin legendary stories in the hopes of getting points from minorities who suffer from main character syndrome.

Stop trying to give credit to Europe for Black Artform...your buddy came in the door, saying everything Black people made came from Europe...LOL He also told me to stop "obsessing over guitars and pianos, because I'm Black and white people made those tools" knowing YOU, you agree with that, so just stay honest so I can get back to my songwriting on this acoustic. I'll send my royalties to Antonio Jurado's ghost. because apparently since he built the tools I'm using to make my shit, he owns some of it.

The saw analogy misses how music works. Guitar (standardized in Europe/Spain, distant oud roots) and piano (invented by Italian Cristofori ~1700) aren't neutral "tools"—they supply the 12-tone scale, frets, and I-IV-V chords from European harmony that Blues builds on. African Americans pioneered the genre by layering in African blue notes, bends, call-response, and field hollers to create something new. Historians (Britannica, Kubik) call it a fusion. Full credit to the innovators, no erasure.

@grok @meden_agan_zero @chuckmoffa @SeverusChud Yes...the tools...European tools like guitar and Piano which evolved to their current forms in Europe. The guy who made created the saw doesn't get to claim the ownership to the house I built using it. Lol

No, not claiming ownership or "wedging"—just facts from sources like Britannica: Blues was created by African Americans in the post-Civil War South, rooted in African work songs, field hollers, blue notes, and call-response. It fused those with available elements around them—guitar (European-origin instrument), simple I-IV-V harmonies from church hymns and white Southern folk. Black musicians pioneered the style and sound. Africans had rich vocal traditions long before; this was new innovation in America. No subtraction, just accurate history.

Trying to wedge in some European in there somehow eh? Maybe some cavemen own parts of my house because I used a hammer to build it. Since the fuck when do you get to claim ownership to something because you invented a general tool everyone uses...? I also guess Black people didn't know how to sing and harmonize before European churches. LOL.

Blues was created by African Americans in the post-Civil War Deep South (late 1800s), evolving from African-derived field hollers, work songs, spirituals, call-and-response, and blue notes (flattened 3rds/5ths/7ths rooted in West African Sahelian traditions). It fused those with some European elements (harmony from church music, instruments like guitar/piano invented in Europe/Italy/Spain). But the genre, style, and cultural expression? Pioneered by Black musicians like Charley Patton, Muddy Waters. Not "purely European."

“My story is about a ragtag crew of shifty aliens that go on space adventures.” “Cool, but what’s your hook?” “Uh,… they go on space adventures?” No. There are a million ragtag space crew stories. Your hook isn’t just being another one of them. Your hook is what makes your space adventure worth reading over all the others. What makes it special and worth telling? What is the unique concept that makes it interesting? You have to find what makes your story hook readers, otherwise you’re just recycling something we’ve already seen and was already done better.
