I’m not always a Klobuchar fan, but this is the right way to approach fraud as a DFL candidate in Minnesota. Don’t tiptoe around it and hope it goes away, deal with it head on because nobody in the state is pro-fraud. Pretending the issue doesn’t exist is a losing strategy.

PAUL, MN — Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Alex Plechash released the following statement in response to Senator Amy Klobuchar’s government reform and fraud proposal: “Amy Klobuchar’s plan is not innovation. It is an admission of failure. “For years, Minnesota Democrats controlled state government while fraud exploded, costs went up, agencies failed, permits got delayed, IT systems aged, small businesses got buried in red tape, and taxpayers were told to keep paying more for less. “Now Senator Klobuchar wants to show up with a glossy plan promising mobile apps, real-time tracking, better technology, fraud prevention, permitting reform, broadband, housing reform, business portals, audits, deadlines, and accountability. “The obvious question is: where has she been? “This plan reads like an indictment of Democrat governance in Minnesota. If state government is too slow, too outdated, too expensive, too vulnerable to fraud, too hostile to small businesses, too difficult to navigate, and too broken to serve taxpayers, then Amy Klobuchar should say who broke it. “The answer is simple: Tim Walz, Keith Ellison, Amy Klobuchar’s DFL allies, and the one-party Democrat machine that ran Minnesota into the ground. “For years, Republicans have called for stronger anti-fraud enforcement, front-end verification, agency accountability, repayment of stolen taxpayer dollars, tougher penalties, inspector general authority, permitting reform, lower costs, and a government that works for taxpayers instead of insiders. “Democrats resisted, delayed, watered down, or ignored those reforms. “Now that fraud and incompetence have become politically toxic, Senator Klobuchar is trying to repackage Republican ideas as her own campaign platform. HEY COUNTY ASSESSOR — THIS ONE’S FOR YOU. Let’s call this what it is. I’m being taxed on money I never made. Think about that. I bought my property in 2012 for $60,000. Now the county claims it’s worth $306,000. Did I sell it? No. Did I realize a profit? No. Did I receive a $306,000 check? Not even close. But my tax bill? That went up like I did. That’s the problem. This isn’t income. This isn’t cash. This is a number someone wrote down on paper — and now I’m expected to pay real money because of it. If my stock portfolio doubles, I don’t owe taxes until I sell. If my paycheck doesn’t increase, I don’t suddenly owe more income tax. So why is housing treated differently? Why am I being taxed on unrealized gains? A home isn’t just an asset on a spreadsheet — it’s where people live. And under this system, you can do everything “right,” pay off your house, and still get squeezed harder every year based on a theoretical value you never turned into cash. That’s not ownership. That’s renting from the government with extra steps. And spare me the talking points about “services” and “inflation.” This is about being billed for value you never received. People are waking up to it.

Minnesotans are right to have high expectations of our government.

There are currently 12 red state with zero Democrat representatives. That’s nearly 1/4 of US states. Republicans are trying to add 5 more through gerrymandering. That would be more than 1/3 of all states. It’s time to outlaw gerrymandering!

As the former U.S. Attorney for Minnesota, Andy Luger exposed the fraud and indicted over 70 people. He and I worked together to make sure he had the prosecutors he needed to take these cases on, and I’m honored to have his support.
