@keith_azopardi I’m struggling with how much the people of Gibraltar are letting Picardo away with this. It just shows you how many people he has in fear of him, scared of consequences as nothing has been done about his corruption. No consequences to pay. He continues as if he’s untouchable 💔

🚨BREAKING: Argentina is RAPIDLY rebuilding it’s military, and they have their eyes on the Falkland Islands 🇫🇰 🇦🇷 🇬🇧 Defence chiefs have warned that the slow deployment of the HMS dragon to the Middle East has EXPOSED weaknesses in the UK military. Former servicemen, including those who served in the 1982 conflict, fear the UK’s DIMINISHING powers will not be enough if a crisis erupts in South America ⚠️

A while back, I learned something mindblowing about the geological history of the Mediterranean Sea, and I just can't get it out of my head. Now I'm going to make it *your* problem too. Sorry. Hang onto your hat. This gets wild. 1/

#Gibraltar and for our followers over nearby Spain - an extremely wet week to come, with some Gale force winds forecast - updated post 01/02 As per our previous heads-up over the last few days, the forecast remains very pessimistic for the coming week/ start of February - with the first cold front arriving across the area later tonight into Monday morning. This is just the first of a succession of fronts forecast for this week, driven S/E across the local area, by several LOW pressure systems barrelling into Western Europe (with it likely that we could see further named storms). Latest forecasts continue to forecast some very high/ extreme rainfall for large areas of the South & West of Iberia, including the local area - with the latest #ECMWF Extreme Forecast Index (EFI) for Rainfall indicating a large area of 0.8+ next week. The chart from #UKMO of Total Rainfall Accumulations totted up to the end of Friday 6th, backs this up, signalling the potential for upwards of 200mm possible over parts of nearby #Spain and perhaps as high as 400mm+ locally over the Sierra de Grazalema. Any rain is of concern now, but this week's forecast totals are very worrying as they will compound flood problems across Andalucia with groundwaters saturated and rivers still running very high. As well as the heavy rain, as previously mentioned, Wednesday/ Thursday in particular need watching with the return of more widespread Gales forecast. Do keep an eye on forecasts this week and for any warnings in your area - be prepared for more stormy weather! 👀 MeteoGib will keep you updated as always.

#Gibraltar and for our followers over nearby Spain - turning increasingly wet & windy through Wednesday - update 20/01 As MeteoGib has been flagging up, the first of some unsettled weather returns tomorrow, turning increasingly wet and windy through the day - the latest forecast from the Met Office for Rain & Max Gusts is below 👇 - running from early Wednesday to early Thursday 22nd. Outbreaks of rain will push in across the area tomorrow, with Southwesterly winds strengthening, with the heaviest of the rain and windiest conditions currently forecast from late afternoon onwards, particularly during the evening/ start of the night, before clearing again. Risk of thunder possible. Forecasts are more in agreement now for a spell of strong Southwesterly winds, with the Met Office model still signalling winds could reach locally Gale force over exposed hills & coasts, with gusts to 80km+ possible - one to keep an eye on later tomorrow. 👀 As always MeteoGib will keep you updated.

#Gibraltar and for our followers over nearby Spain - a more unsettled week - update 13/01 Below is the latest Rain forecast from #UKMO running from today through to the end of Sunday, 18th - which shows the first of a succession of cold fronts arriving during today and expected to remain slow-moving across the Strait area overnight and through into Wednesday - bringing rain or showers, with the chance of some heavier bursts/a rumble of thunder. Further unsettled weather is forecast through the rest of the week, but with some uncertainty over details/ timings and especially heading into the weekend. Where yesterday's forecasts suggested some drier conditions for the weekend, some of the latest runs are more pessimistic, particularly for Saturday - so do keep an eye on forecasts for any further changes. Below is a latest model comparison of 24hr Rain Accumulations for Saturday, #UKMO v #ECMWF, which clearly highlights the current uncertainty heading into the weekend! As mentioned yesterday, increasingly colder air will tuck in during the week, with the snowline plummeting and it's likely that we'll see some snow return over nearby Sierras. ❄️❄️

#Gibraltar and for our followers over nearby Spain - some unsettled weather returns this week - 12/01 After the recent dry spell/ dry start to the week, the weather is forecast to turn more unsettled at times during the week ahead as LOW pressure systems initially track to the North of Iberia driving weather fronts Eastwards across the peninsula - bringing showers or longer spells of rain, some heavy with a risk of thunder. Below is the latest Rain forecast from the #UKMO running from this evening through to Sunday evening, 18th Jan 👇 - which shows the first front (a cold front), pushing slowly East across Western Andalucia during tomorrow, with the first showers/ rain reaching the Strait later. The rain probability chart for the Rock from #ECMWF also highlights further unsettled spells expected during the week - while the chart of Rain Accumulations totted up to the end of Sunday, currently shows the potential for some significant rain over the next 7 days. With colder air set to dig in again later in the week and the snowline plummeting, it's likely we could see some snow again on nearby Sierras. ❄️ It's time to dig out the raincoats and brollies again ☔️

#Iberia #Gibraltar - a quick look at this week's weather - 16/11 While #StormClaudia #BorrascaClaudia will bring further showers to start the week, we'll then pay the price of some drier conditions, with some colder Arctic air gradually extending SE across Europe including Iberia. Below is the sequence of forecast 850mb Temperature Anomalies running through to Sunday (Temp at ~5,000ft and used as an indicator of changes in airmass), which shows that colder air push SE. Latest #ECMWF Temperature & Precipitation Anomaly charts for next week, signal a colder and drier week for many after Storm Claudia, but with wettest conditions across the North of Spain bringing some significant #snow there, particularly to higher ground, as the snowline plummets as low as 200-500m by the end of the week! #WinterIsComing ❄️❄️ Any showers running further South across the peninsula later in the week, could also fall as snow over some of the Sierras. For Gibraltar and the local area, while some showers to start the week, expect an overall drier week than last week, turning colder - with overnight temperatures later in the week falling more widely into single figures. Some spots over nearby Spain may see their first frost of the season. 🥶

Wise words “My name’s Frank. I’m 64, a retired electrician. Forty-two years I spent running wires through houses, fixing breakers, making sure people had light in their kitchens and heat in their winters. Never once did anyone ask me where I went to college. Mostly, they just wanted to know if I could get the power back on before their ice cream melted. Last May, I was at my granddaughter Emily’s school career day. You know the drill — doctors, lawyers, a software guy in a slick suit talking about “scaling startups.” I was the only one there with a tool belt and work boots. When it was my turn, I told the kids, “I don’t have a degree. I’ve never sat in a lecture hall. But I’ve wired schools, hospitals, and your principal’s house. And when the hospital generator failed during a snowstorm in ’98, I was the one in the basement with a flashlight, keeping the lights on for newborn babies upstairs.” The kids leaned forward. They had questions — real ones. “How do you fix stuff in the dark?” “Do you make a lot of money?” “Do you ever get zapped?” (Yes, once, and it’ll curl your hair.) When the bell rang, one boy hung back. Small kid, freckles, hoodie too big for him. He mumbled, “My uncle’s a plumber. People laugh at him ’cause he didn’t finish high school. But… he’s the only one in the family who can fix anything.” I looked that boy in the eye and said, “Kid, your uncle’s a hero. When your toilet overflows at midnight, Harvard ain’t sending anyone. A plumber is.” Here’s the thing nobody told me when I was young — the world doesn’t run without tradespeople. You can have all the engineers you want, but if nobody builds the house, wires the power, or lays the pipes, those blueprints just sit in a drawer. We’ve made it sound like trades are what you do if you can’t go to college, instead of a path you choose because you like working with your hands, solving problems, and seeing your work stand solid for decades. Four years after high school, some kids walk away with diplomas. Others walk away with zero debt, a union card, and a skill they can take anywhere in the world. And guess what? When your furnace dies in January, it’s not the diploma that saves you. A few weeks ago, that same freckled kid’s mom stopped me at the grocery store. She said, “You probably don’t remember, but you told my son trades are important. He’s shadowing his uncle this summer. First time I’ve seen him excited about anything in years.” That’s the part we forget — for some kids, knowing their path is respected changes everything. It’s not about “just” fixing wires or pipes. It’s about pride. Purpose. The kind that sticks with you long after the job’s done. So next time you meet a teenager, don’t just ask, “Where are you going to college?” Ask, “What’s your plan?” And if they say, “I’m learning to weld,” or “I’m starting an apprenticeship,” smile big and say, “That’s fantastic. We’re going to need you.” Because we will. More than ever. And when the lights go out, you’ll be glad they showed up.”
