@matthewbaszucki Hi Matt, medication treats the symptoms not the cause. For those 35% great but, the remaining 65% continue to suffer. Determine the cause (which could be different for everyone) THEN address it.

I can't get this out of my head, wtf is going on with our treatments: In the largest depression treatment trial ever done (STAR*D), four sequential treatments were tried on 4,000 patients. The real remission rate after all four was likely around 35%. That means 65% of people trying four different medications are still clinically depressed. We call this treatment-resistant. Maybe some of it is actually just the wrong treatment entirely...

Friends, I received a clean bill of cardio health on Sunday and I am back home. We are not wholly sure what precipitated this serious event (not a heart attack but a reduction in oxygen flow) but all is well, our medical care is great, and I am deeply grateful for your good wishes. I could not have made it through this episode without the life-giving love and incredible support of my wife Jacqueline Castel who was there through every step--including florescent-lit nights of non-sleep in the ER and lots of coordination, canniness, and brilliant encouragement. xxx My sons Toby and Caleb put themselves out and showed up with great love and attention and my love and gratitude is with them as always. So many docs and medical staff were wonderful and this smile is for them. And for all of you. -M- x portrait by the maestro Sante D'Orazio

I’m sorry I’ve gone quiet. I’m honestly just trying to survive at the moment, and even opening messages feels like too much. I’m not being rude, I’ve just reached that point where everything shuts down and communication feels impossible. If you see this, can you drop a “hello” below… I think I could really use that right now ❤️💙🖤

@UofT You should also include how music is encoded, stored, and recalled. Comparing the two may give you insight into how to reprogram them. Just a thought.

What if memories could be rewritten? #UofT researcher Sheena Josselyn studies how memories are encoded, stored & recalled, and how they might be reprogrammed or erased, advancing research on PTSD and Alzheimer’s disease. 🧠 uoft.me/josselyn-s

I believe in luck, I just don't believe it's random. It finds the people who keep showing up. The ones who won't quit when it gets tough. The ones who stay long after they're tired. If you're still there when everyone has gone home, you're getting closer. #MondayMotivation

@BoomslangCreate Couldn’t sleep, TMJ/jaw pain severe, legs always hurt/heavy. Nauseous a lot. Lots of allergy symptoms & parents smoked in the house. Again, I likely have hEDS (which is still thought to be genetic even tho they can’t find the genes), but some think it’s exacerbated by illness

I’m so fucking sick of POTS making it 104820382937x harder to perform Instead of getting to really sing my piece, I’m just out of breath and heart rate is 130 WHILE SITTING DOWN I can’t have any fun, I feel breathless, and my voice doesn’t function like it should

@singingsox Do you remember being sick in middle school? The reason I am asking is because I map chronic diseases. If the condition is not present at birth, there is always a trigger. POTS can be associated with blood vessel dysfunction which in turn causes exercise intolerance

@BoomslangCreate I had swine flu in 2009 but I had signs before that. I likely have hEDS. I had exercise intolerance starting in middle school but people just told me I was fat even tho I was an active kid bc it was the 2000s

@Naomi_D_Harvey Hi Naomi, I agree with your sentiment. Biomarkers can be helpful. Chronic disease needs to be viewed as a process. Transitioning from the standard of care now to identifying the root cause, and addressing it; that is the new reality. Individualized research analysis.

We need a biomarker for diagnosing ME asap. Can’t come soon enough. Every time a patient who believes they had ME recovers from rehabilitative methods, it threatens the next patient who truly does have ME and gets harmed by the same approach 😪
