@peachsweet_tea I don’t like seeing fish faces but sardine pate and sardine cakes are bomb!

@vidmdjcjalf @cybelethebest I get it! It basically just comes down whether you want long term gain or short term gain
English

@BoredXanthippe @cybelethebest so they would rather find someone agreeable.
definitely power dynamic plays a huge role
I wouldn't say its always a bad thing in a nuclear family

And let’s not overlook the fact that people are increasingly mating assortatively on income, which suggest pretty clearly that desirable higher-earning men *prefer* higher-earning women.

Cybele@cybelethebest
Why do men keep denying this here?
English

I think that a man with those quals should def be able to find a quality partner, BUT even cancer researchers need to go where the women they like are in order to hook them. The struggle for them is that there are less women in heavy STEM so they’ll prob have to go to wine bars, hiking clubs, and other clubs/social groups where women are instead of just finding someone at work or school.
English

@BoredXanthippe @cybelethebest ideal? not talking short term but spending the rest of his life with. cause i've heard even men at that caliber still do struggle
English

Idk, I think society is less accepting of inter-class marriages today bc it has become harder to jump class over the last ~50yrs or so. Nobody really cares if a man who is a cancer researcher with a PhD from Cal marries a woman who is a financial analyst with a bachelor’s degree from UC Davis, but if he marries an au pair from Brazil then the assumption is that something is wrong with him or he would have hooked a peer vs the help.

@BoredXanthippe @cybelethebest kids
so I think people today values regarding inheritance has decreased
I guess the social stigma still exist for the 1%
its the who women value income and status way more than men
and as much as I hate to say it men value looks by a lot
that they're gonna be willing to compr

You’ve never met interesting women because you don’t attract them
Jack Napier@JackNapierNot
I’ve never met a woman who entered a hobby without having been introduced to it by a man she’s sleeping with.

We NEED more gays in government 🙏

I think that the TFR dropping is actually a good thing. I understand that the US gov has progressively increased entitlements so the whole house of cards collapses if we don’t have more paypigs to feed it and I’m not particularly worried about climate change, but there are too many losers having babies and I don’t think that this is a model for a society that I’d like to be a part of 🤷🏼♀️
English

@andtwofortea @cybelethebest Yep, a more well bred woman marrying a more affluent man is extremely lindy! Babe Paley and her 2nd hubby, Jackie O and JFK, etc.
English

@BoredXanthippe @cybelethebest Yes. I’ve known men who married down in SALARY. They were often marrying UP in (social, professional, or both) prestige: think a regular old finance guy marrying a woman working at a top gallery, an Ivy grad student, or a trust fund baby who’s killing a few years as a teacher.
English

@cybelethebest @BoredXanthippe The only way this can be countered for many people is (1) emphasise how haaaaaard it is for the male partners and (2) tell them that the bone thinning will make it so that people have to take care of more and more older female relatives.
English

Some people seem to find this objectionable in a unique way compared to any other anti-aging efforts, I’m not sure I see the difference compared to any other efforts to mitigate or reverse age-related physical decline?
I think there are very few women who would be trying to have children in their 50s or later, mostly the concern here is quality of life.

I just learned up to 84% of women lose sexual function after menopause without intervention. All of this is related to the fertility crisis because I see a lot of women not wanting to commit to a man who has a high chance of ditching them after they've given him her life/ body, and surely almost nobody realizes that not treating menopause must be a huge reason marriages fail later in life. Interesting stuff.

Dua Lipa is cool af but I would respect this more if she just picked a bunch of books that she authentically liked. This performative “banned books” spiel that reads like a high school reading list is beyond stale atp 🙄
eve@eve_bouff
this is so fucking hot. dua lipa is the renaissance humanist we didn't know we needed
