@BoredXanthippe @cybelethebest so they would rather find someone agreeable. definitely power dynamic plays a huge role I wouldn't say its always a bad thing in a nuclear family

And let’s not overlook the fact that people are increasingly mating assortatively on income, which suggest pretty clearly that desirable higher-earning men *prefer* higher-earning women.

I think that a man with those quals should def be able to find a quality partner, BUT even cancer researchers need to go where the women they like are in order to hook them. The struggle for them is that there are less women in heavy STEM so they’ll prob have to go to wine bars, hiking clubs, and other clubs/social groups where women are instead of just finding someone at work or school.

Idk, I think society is less accepting of inter-class marriages today bc it has become harder to jump class over the last ~50yrs or so. Nobody really cares if a man who is a cancer researcher with a PhD from Cal marries a woman who is a financial analyst with a bachelor’s degree from UC Davis, but if he marries an au pair from Brazil then the assumption is that something is wrong with him or he would have hooked a peer vs the help.

I think that the TFR dropping is actually a good thing. I understand that the US gov has progressively increased entitlements so the whole house of cards collapses if we don’t have more paypigs to feed it and I’m not particularly worried about climate change, but there are too many losers having babies and I don’t think that this is a model for a society that I’d like to be a part of 🤷🏼‍♀️

@andtwofortea @cybelethebest Yep, a more well bred woman marrying a more affluent man is extremely lindy! Babe Paley and her 2nd hubby, Jackie O and JFK, etc.

@BoredXanthippe @cybelethebest Yes. I’ve known men who married down in SALARY. They were often marrying UP in (social, professional, or both) prestige: think a regular old finance guy marrying a woman working at a top gallery, an Ivy grad student, or a trust fund baby who’s killing a few years as a teacher.

Some people seem to find this objectionable in a unique way compared to any other anti-aging efforts, I’m not sure I see the difference compared to any other efforts to mitigate or reverse age-related physical decline? I think there are very few women who would be trying to have children in their 50s or later, mostly the concern here is quality of life.

I just learned up to 84% of women lose sexual function after menopause without intervention. All of this is related to the fertility crisis because I see a lot of women not wanting to commit to a man who has a high chance of ditching them after they've given him her life/ body, and surely almost nobody realizes that not treating menopause must be a huge reason marriages fail later in life. Interesting stuff.
