@varadmehta From all things I know, Congress only needs to authorize it if federal funds are used. That’s not the case here, so idk what the judge is talking, unless I’m missing something, since it’s privately funded.

@cockamaymee @earlyvotedata @scotus_wire It’s a big case, there are likely a lot of back and forth happening with opinions behind the scenes. They aren’t as instantaneous as people think. I’d be shocked if we had it before June.

@scotus_wire Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve never heard of a case of the Supreme Court that was decided and then reheard/decided again the next term. They usually do re-hearing for cases when they need more information and defer the opinion in the case until next term.

@scotus_wire Yeah, but I could argue that that one wasn’t as complex as these two are. They’ve handled gay marriage before, so it’s not exactly on the same scope.

Justice Jackson has now written twice from the October sitting after today’s opinions. That leaves Justices Alito and Gorsuch likely to write the last two outstanding opinions from the October sitting: race-based redistricting under the VRA and conversion therapy bans.

@kbo_coyote @BlueBoxDave Technically speaking, it can be considered attempted murder if two elements are established: 1). Intent to murder. 2). A direct, substantive step to pursue the crime. Same standards with the Kavanaugh incident. The victim doesn’t need to be present for it.

@scotus_wire Not a surprising ruling, the only surprise for me is that it came this early with how many concurrences and dissents there are. I believe it just tells you one thing, even if their opinion is big, the Supreme Court can decide how long it wants to take on each opinion.

🚨 In a 6-3 vote, the Supreme Court STRIKES DOWN President Trump's tariffs, holding that the President CANNOT use the IEEPA and Congress alone has the taxing power. Roberts delivered the opinion/judgment of the Court. Thomas, Alito, and Kavanaugh dissent.

@GovernorGa_ I ask this genuinely and not to sound mean but to be clear, do you have any claim to being a Republican or are you left leaning centrist? The latter is where I am, I’m just not as vocal on here about it.

@scotus_wire Very unusual, I’ve never seen them schedule three in advance, usually they schedule one after the first one’s done.

@King_kVAR @nostalgiafkninc Biden SS, Biden DOJ, and Biden FBI but somehow he was able to convince them all to participate and not say a word….wow….if you believe that, I don’t think I even need to sell you the bridge in Brooklyn.

@scotus_wire If the Supreme Court does take this case up, I don’t see how it would be decided before the midterms, because they are already filling out the rest of their term docket. They might issue a stay, but even then it’s a tricky situation.

@scotus_wire Typically this would be a good indicator of some positive news coming, but we all know Roberts is a slippery slope, I remember when there was a month sitting down to just Thomas not having an opinion, with one of the liberal justices having been assigned two opinions instead.

Here's some SCOTUS math: after today's rulings, 4 cases remain from the October sitting, two of which are major ones (conversion therapy and VRA/race-based redistricting). Thomas, Alito, and Gorsuch are the only justices who have yet to author an opinion from this sitting...

@scotus_wire You know it seems like a pretty easy case, but I’m assuming and this is just based on past history that Justice Sotomayor and Jackson started writing their dissent immediately after this case was posted to the docket.

Busy day at the Supreme Court tomorrow; the Court will announce one or more opinions and will hear argument in Wolford v. Lopez, a challenge to a Hawaii law that bans firearms on private property open to the public unless the owner expressly allows guns.

Notice how every time Trump is at the Supreme Court they intentionally delay it and issue their ruling as slow as humanly possible? That’s on purpose.
