India has 2% of the world's uranium. But 25% of the world's thorium.
For 70 years, that was a weakness. Today it became the strategy.
Homi Bhabha designed a 3 stage nuclear relay race in 1954 specifically because we had no uranium.
Stage 1 burns uranium to produce plutonium.
Stage 2 uses plutonium to breed MORE fuel than it burns (this just went live at Kalpakkam).
Stage 3 uses the bred fuel to finally unlock thorium.
846,000 tonnes of thorium sitting in the beaches of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha. Enough energy for 700+ years at current consumption.
Every other nuclear power built their program around uranium because they had it. India built the only program in the world designed from day one to NOT need it.
A completely different game.
