STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE   PRESIDENT TINUBU, VP SHETTIMA, DIGNITARIES BID FAREWELL AS FORMER PRESIDENT BUHARI LAID TO REST IN DAURA   Former President Muhammadu Buhari has been laid to rest at his residence in Daura, Katsina State, following funeral prayers and interment attended by numerous dignitaries led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.   Large crowds lined the streets of Daura and gathered at the former President's residence to pay their last respects.   The former President's final journey began on Tuesday afternoon, when his body arrived from London at Umaru Musa Yar'Adua International Airport in Katsina.   President Tinubu and other dignitaries, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, President Umaru Sissoco Embalo of Guinea-Bissau, Prime Minister of Niger Republic, Ali Lamine Zeine, former President of Niger Republic, Issoufou Mahamadou, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, governors and business leaders, escorted the late President's remains on the hour-long drive to Daura.   Upon arrival, a brief lying-in-state ceremony was held at President Buhari's residence, followed by the funeral prayer (Salatul Janazah) led by Sheikh Salisu Rabiu, the Imam of the Central Mosque in Daura.   President Tinubu and the late President's close family members witnessed the final interment at 5.50 p.m   The state funeral was marked by full military honours, including a reveille and a 21-gun salute. A weeklong programme of events will continue later on Tuesday with a condolence visit to President Buhari's family by the Presidential Committee. Let's Stay Back And Salvage Nigeria, VP Shettima Tells Resident Doctors * Urges them to resist temptation of rendering their services in foreign land Vice President @KashimSM has appealed to Nigerian doctors to stay put in Nigeria and join hands with the @officialABAT administration in the ongoing efforts to salvage the nation. Apparently cautioning against the recent surge in a phenomenon colloquially referred to in the local parlance as "Japa Syndrome" the VP did not just ask the doctors to remain in the country but to resist the temptation of absconding without flashing a ray of hope. He told them in confidence that President @officialABAT has their interest at heart, saying he (Tinubu) has a lot of empathy for medical doctors who have chosen to stay back at home despite juicy offers abroad. Senator @KashimSM spoke on Tuesday when the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) led by its newly elected President, Prof. Bala Audu, paid him a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa. NEMA to distribute KSrelief food donation to 5606 households in Nigeria A Saudi Arabia based international humanitarian organization, King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (@KSRelief_EN) has donated a total of 5,606 food baskets to be distributed by the National Emergency Management Agency (@nemanigeria) to enumerated most vulnerable persons in Kano, Jigawa and Katsina States and an educational foundation in Maiduguri, Borno State. The food baskets consist of 25kg rice, 25kg beans, 4kg masa vita flour, 2litres vegetable oil, 2kg tomato paste, 0.8kg seasoning cubes and 1kg salt. A total of 5,606 households will benefit from the donation with each being expected to receive a total of 59.8 kg of the food basket. Beneficiaries of the food items were jointly enumerated by NEMA and the State Emergency Management Agencies (SEMA) of Kano, Jigawa, Katsina. The number of beneficiaries expected to receive the items in Kano State are 2,056 households, with 1,750 households each in Jigawa and Katsina States. 50 food baskets will benefit vulnerable persons in camps and host communities identified by the non governmental organisation in Maiduguri, Borno State. The food items will be distributed directly to the beneficiaries by staff of NEMA and SEMA of Kano, Jigawa and Katsina states. However, the distribution in Borno State would be done by a local non-governmental organization, Taibah Educational Foundation and supervised by NEMA staff. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has previously donated food baskets, which were successfully distributed by NEMA in Zamfara, Borno, Yobe and Kano States.
