They were foreign nationals in international waters in the Caribbean. The Bill of Rights that mandates trials does not extend to foreign nationals in international waters. To Kill a Mockingbird was about an American man accused on American soil and the reliance on constitutional rights to save his life. The fact that you didn’t realize the difference is almost frightening. Under your mindset, every foreign national abroad should receive constitutional protections. It means war is impossible. It means Thomas Jefferson’s assault on the Barbary Pirates was wrong. It means killing Osama Bin Laden was wrong because we didn’t give him a trial first.
