@meathead If it's a "sit-down restaurant" with table service, standard tip is 20%. If I have to go to a register to order food, no tip. If I order food to-go from a sit-down restaurant, I tip 10% because the servers who have tables handle those orders.

I agree that if you can’t afford to tip, you should not go to a restaurant. That said I think that 20% is still the norm not 30%. Here’s how I do it. I look at the total before tax, multiply by two, and move the decimal point Over one place. I will will often round it up so that the actual tip is a bit more than 20%. If the server is extraordinary, I will go 25%.
