The reaction of some on the left to the murder of Anne Widdicombe reminds me of the indifference shown towards Israeli victims of the October 7 Hamas attacks. There is something deeply disturbing about a politics in which hatred of a perceived enemy erodes basic human sympathy. It seems they struggle to condemn violence when the victim is someone they systematically demonise.
