In another country (or state) & under a different worldview, someone like @BenSasse would be offered "death with dignity": taking his own life before natural death. Instead, he is showing what true death with dignity can be. You really have to consider yourself dead already.

@theblaze Give me the list of 10 things Rs would do without the filibuster. Then compare to what Dems would do. Assess whether this looks like “winning.”

It’s 330am on July 5th, 1985, 18th inning of a game between the Mets/Braves. The Braves are down 11-10 and down to their last hitter. They send reliever Rick Camp, who had a batting average of .062. Beautiful call by legendary broadcaster, John Sterling. Rest easy, John

Brevard Childs reportedly once told a student: if you want to become a better exegete, become a deeper person. Something similar could be said for so many aspects of our lives. Here's one: if you want a more Christian society, become a more deeply Christian person.

In elder plurality, every pastor has shepherds who watch over his soul. What a kind gift! But the benefit of elder parity is that every pastor has shepherds to whom he must submit (Heb 13:17).

This is controversial and I didn't realize it until today but here it goes: It is very unlikely King Saul is in Heaven. He murdered the priests of Nob, desolated the Gibeonites, tried to kill his son and David, and the day before God killed him he was breaking the command not to speak to a necromancer. He has no fruit of a godly life, and no evidence of a genuine repentance. He rejected God continuously, had the Spirit taken from him, and was tortured by a demon. His life is a tragedy that grieved Samuel and brought ruin to his family. Yes Jesus can love and forgive anyone. But there's no Scriptural evidence for it with Saul.

@mungowitz aka, it is fundamentally a cultural issue, not a purely economic one (as what typically gets the focus) The infant and maternal mortality rate alone is the proof. It is hard to imagine anything like 8-10% infant and dealing with all that brings.

I read this. And then I had to go for a walk to calm down. The whole POINT of AF is destroyed to serve the Serkis political viewpoint. I can imagine him smiling and thinking, "There....FIXED it!"

The most endumbening pair of sentences that you will read today: "Animal Farm, classically, is a story without a happy ending. But Serkis' interpretation gives viewers closure." usatoday.com/story/entertai…

Teaching on funerals today. Any long-time pastor will tell you: It's a powerful ministry, and it's one that is often overlooked.
