Teaching (and practicing) how to lead the Lord's Supper today. It is an incredibly powerful and subversive act in which Christians participate. Really excited about class today.

Think of walking into a silent disco. Everyone is dancing, but you can't hear the music. You *want* to get a pair of headphones so you can join in. Christians should live in such a way that others want to hear the music.

Disciples are the sort of people who dance their lives listening to the melody of Jesus.

@Bezner @dclange You are correct--we need "both" gov't and community, churches. BTW, you should ignore trolls--you know them by their lack of authentic profile photos of a real human. FYI--you and I went to HSU together! I recall only one conv with you, however (different circles)!

If you honestly read the Bible, you cannot help but notice that God gives preferential treatment to the poor. The biggest reason that I support policies that help the poor is that I read the Bible.

Teaching on funerals today. Any long-time pastor will tell you: It's a powerful ministry, and it's one that is often overlooked.

@dclange Oh, I think churches never get to opt out of caring for the poor.

@Bezner Agree, but we must combat this "I gave at the office" mentality that exists in our churches. We too often "outsource" this work to other orgs (or the government).

@dclange I honestly think we need both the government *and* individuals, churches, and communities. We have a massive income disparity in our nation.

@Bezner I agree with having a wide and strong social safety net, but what do you say to the idea that it really should be individuals, churches & communities helping the needy, not the state & fed gov? Too easy for many to see someone in need and think, "I did my part; I paid my taxes."

In that day the deaf will hear the words of the scroll, and out of gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind will see. Once more the humble will rejoice in the Lord; the needy will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. —Isaiah 29:18-19

@RandyUT @Bezner I assume there are many such conversions, but it is always a grace when God makes one known to me. Blessings, Texan gentiles who were not raised in the Way, but have found it through your Humble Servant, nonetheless.

JB had seen that one several times. But she just happened to flip it over last week and notice that my MIL was praying at least ten years ago (likely much further back than that) that I would get to one day write a Bonhoeffer book. 3/4

Quick story: My MIL (we all called her Grandmommy or GMommy) passed away in 2017. After she died, my wife (JB) kept her prayer cards. My MIL wrote Scriptures on notecards and the names of family/friends whom she prayed that particular verse over. 1/4
