@jemelehill Ridiculous take.Joker has been the best player in the NBA for over half a decade now, but he'll never be the "face" of the NBA. Being the "best" and the "face" are not mutually exclusive. 9/10, probably more, couldn't pick A'ja Wilson out of a lineup, but they could CC.

I appreciate the nuance in your opinion, but there is a difference between popularity, appeal and being the face of the league. Caitlin Clark is the most popular player in the WNBA, and the biggest draw. She’s not the face because she’s not creating a new standard for winning (yet). She does not have accomplishments that people want to take (yet). What team is everyone trying to beat? The Aces. What player is everyone trying to match? A’ja Wilson. The standard for winning is A’ja. Michael Jordan became the face of the NBA because he became the standard by which every player is measured. Everyone wanted to stop him. Caitlin isn’t there.
Robert Griffin III@RGIII

Caitlin Clark is the face of the WNBA. She just had a 45 POINT 10 ASSISTS DOUBLE DOUBLE with 4 steals, 2 blocks and 2 rebounds. Shot 11/18 from the field and 6/10 from 3 point range in 29 minutes with a +16 +/-. Other players have scored more points this year and in years pasts, but most of all, IT WAS EXCITING. That’s why the fans love watching her play. Her style is just different than what they are used to seeing. Caitlin Clark is UNDOUBTEDLY the most popular player in the WNBA. Caitlin Clark is a record breaking great player on and off the court. There is no denying that. Caitlin Clark has helped bring record breaking viewership, crowds and money with her to the WNBA. The issue in the WNBA right now amongst the players is that when you say someone is the “FACE OF THE WNBA” every competitive player will only conceded that designation to a player that they believe as earned it with their play on the court. The “Face of the WNBA” to the players and former players is A’Ja Wilson. She is respected as such by her peers because she is the best player in the WNBA, the only 4 time WNBA MVP and has won 3 WNBA Championships. The Face of the WNBA to the fans is Caitlin Clark. She is the player that excites the masses the most with her play style and has broken numerous WNBA records in her first 3 season. And there lies the disconnect. Michael Jordan was the face of the NBA before he won a Championship, but it came with extreme push back from the rest of the league in how they guarded him and treated him. LeBron James was the face of the NBA before he won a Championship, but it came with extreme push back from the rest of the league in how they guarded him and treated him. When players feel like they are being overshadowed by a player they feel doesn’t have the accolades to warrant it, they fight it. They don’t respect it. But there is a difference between being the face of the WNBA and being the best player in the WNBA. Definition of Face of the any professional league, “Title given to the league's most recognizable, marketable, and impactful player at any given time.” The fans have spoken on this matter, but many players and former players won’t like it because the gap in the accomplishments between A’Ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark is massive. Caitlin Clark is the face of the WNBA before she has won a championship and it has come with extreme push back from the players in the way she is guarded and treated. Just like Michael Jordan and LeBron James were. Will Caitlin Clark ever become the best player in the WNBA? She can. She has the ability to. But right now, she is the WNBA’s most recognizable player. That’s not disrespectful to the other great players in the WNBA, it’s the reality of where the WNBA was before and after Caitlin Clark showed up. Regardless, it’s okay to celebrate the greatness of all the WNBA’s great players without turning it into a race war. For the players, for the fans, for the WNBA and for the kids watching, this has to stop.

@DerGermanBobbie @gehrig38 @Realrclark25 Ryan Clark is an absolute race-baiting POS moron... Andrew Schulz ate his ass up when he called him a racist for making a joke about black women. Dude just says stupid shit and never backs any of it up with facts.

espn.com/nfl/story/_/id… Let's do a little exercise. Take the last 100, hell take ALL of them to date, all of the domestic violence cases against professional athletes in the past 30 years. Then? Do a racial breakdown of the criminals. That's not racist, not in the least; statistics CAN'T BE racist; they're facts. Facts can't be racist. Now tell me it's not a cultural problem. Now, most important, and this is a legit and serious question: how do you go about fixing/addressing this as a country?

@imsoatlanta @ArtOfDialogue_ What he's saying, is Bird, Magic, MJ, and Kobe all had dynasties built around them... They didn't need to go to a different franchise to get their rings. Most stars today want instant gratification instead of trying to build something on their own. Not right or wrong, just diff.

Actor Alfonso Ribeiro reveals what he believes caused the current drop in NBA ratings and says LeBron James’s original decision to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat to chase Michael Jordan’s six championship rings ruined basketball. Also, Alfonso Ribeiro says the Kobe and Shaq era would have been the greatest era in the history of basketball if they had gotten their egos in check. (🎥 Byron Scott's Fast Break/YouTube)

@chris_teez26 @arielhelwani Come on man... Over 1/2 his fights ended in KO, and he moved up in weight and fought naturally bigger guys the last 1/2 of his career. There's a huge difference between MMA punching power and a boxer. Connor was knocking people out L & R in UFC, but didn't do any damage on floyd

Conor McGregor reveals there were discussions for a two-fight deal with Terence Crawford worth $200 million involving Turki Alalshikh, but says Crawford ultimately declined: "I got on the phone, 'What's the craic, Terence? It's the Mac Daddy. I got [Turki] here. We've got a big deal for you. It's hundreds of millions, $200 million to be exact. Mixed martial arts against me and a boxing one against you. He said, 'I don't want to be kicked by you. No way.' Whatever, that's fine... I don't know how as a man, or as a combatant, you couldn't want to test yourself. And then he said that about [Topuria]... I didn't like it, and I came in as the daddy of the game and let it be known, and that's it."

@KristianRTW @terencecrawford @WadePlem Dana's not going to let them out of a UFC contract though, and who outside of the UFC would be a big enough draw to challenge a world champion boxer? I don't think the reward matches the risk

Mike Greenberg arrived at ESPN only a few months after I did in 1996 and he’s been there ever since, headlining so many important shows for the company on both the TV and radio side of things…which made him a natural fit for the first season of “This Was SportsCenter” In episode 3 of the series, Greeny tells a hilarious story about his first day on the job at SportsCenter as I learned we had the same first co-anchor to boot.
