My son was a benchwarmer for various sports at his school for several years. He was super diligent and worked hard, but we didn’t have the body mass or the hand-eye coordination to be successful in sports like football or Lacross. Three years ago, the cross-country coach talked him into joining the team. He was not sold on the concept of getting up early and running but thought he would give it a try. What he found was that his natural diligence played really well into distance running. He had a good season and then went on to be successful in track as a Sophomore and did even better as a Junior. He could’ve just enjoyed now being an asset to his school and someone who did pretty well. But instead, he spent the past couple summers running and training hard. In fact, he now runs 60 miles a week on top of speed training, lifting, etc. On Saturday, this kid just WON STATE in the 5k with a time of 15:41, and I couldn't be more proud. -- The applications for you in business are obvious, go find your spot and be the best you can be at it! Don’t pursue random objectives outside your wheelhouse, no matter how “cool” it is to other people. Happy Monday! Let’s get it!
