Books have layers! Book printed in black and white (1484), rubricated, woodcuts coloured and initials flourished by hand, damaged, repaired in handwriting. And still going strong today @ubleiden Dutch translation of the Gesta Romanorum, 21219 B 15: 2.

@CamLibResearch @ubleiden I am not a specialist but I think so, at least it does not look unfamiliar to me. I took out this copy as an example of a sammelband with incunables for a show-and-tell for students, so have not looked into it further. Probably should though 😊
