Our national study found that for every one hour with patients, UK resident doctors spend four hours on admin. In @bmj_latest today, we break down why this isn’t just an inconvenience, it’s a safety risk.  1) Fragmented EHRs → endless copy-paste + re-entering data 2) Trainees turned into scribes 3) Less training, less confidence, less preparedness We suggest: • Reassign admin to allied staff • Joined-up IT that fits clinical workflows • Minimum patient-facing time requirement in training • Clinicians co-designing digital tools If you work in healthcare: what’s one admin task you’d automate or reassign tomorrow? 👇 Your answers might shape the fix-list. Thank you to my co-authors @KaranChhatwal_ @HamaadAKhan and Professor Stuart D. Rosen, and BMJ editors @Juliet_hd and @jolie__neill. You can find the link to the full BMJ piece in the comments. With thanks to @imperialcollege and @bmj_latest

It’s a real honour to be promoted to full Professor, and I’m deeply grateful to the many mentors, colleagues, and students who’ve made this possible. I feel especially fortunate, within the @TEQ_Neurosurg group, to work at the interface of surgery, neurology, and engineering – and to collaborate with brilliant teams across the @QSNeurosurgery, the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, the UCL Hawkes institute, and now our robotics spin-out, Panda Surgical. Translating technologies from lab to operating theatre has been a real team effort, and the achievement is as much theirs as it is mine.

📜 National #SpinOut Register launches today! Developed by @ResearchEng in partnership with HESA, this first publicly curated list of all spinouts across the UK, is something we have been eagerly awaiting. Further change in the spinout landscape can only be achieved by increasing the amount of data available on UK spinouts. Our annual Spotlight on Spinouts report has been the Academy’s contribution to this so far. Read more: hesa.ac.uk/data-and-analy…

Three days to our side event at #WHA78! Still time to register: g4a-traumaticbraininjury.crd.co Approximately 69 million people suffer from #TBI annually. This number is compounded exponentially by the #chronic socioeconomic burden to carers and society #WHA78 #NotifyTBI #TBICoalition

Real data + reporting on @TheLancet surgical indicators at a country & regional level forces accountability and therefore sustainable initiatives/interventions to improve care Data drives action This is why #TBI must be recognised as a #notifiable and #chronic condition #WHA78

We are working as part of @TBICoalition towards achieving reporting of TBI cases. High quality data drives effective policies! Join us on 21/5 for our side event to find out more and join the discussion on #notifyTBI #chronicTBI #WHA78 @theG4Alliance

If “only what gets measured gets managed [and funded]”, where do we stand in #globalsurgery? There are important challenges in reporting surgical indicators 10 years on. 👉 we need high quality, standardised, widely adopted data on key surgery indicators to inform policy!
