Actually, there’s more historical evidence for Jesus rising from the dead than for most events from antiquity. Multiple eyewitness testimonies (1 Corinthians 15: 3-8; also see Josephus, Tacitus), the empty tomb (His enemies never produced a body), and hundreds of fearful skeptics transforming overnight into fearless martyrs. That’s not “stories”,That’s public, verifiable history. As for “threats of damnation”…that’s called the just consequence of rejecting the One who gave you life and a conscience to begin with (Romans 6:23). God doesn’t delight in the destruction of the wicked (Ezekiel 33: 11), but He does offer a free pardon in Christ. So the question isn’t whether the warning is “passive aggressive.” The question is whether or not you’ll look at the evidence honestly instead of hand waving it away.

@BrandonOldGuy @DrFrankTurek The real issue IS the lack of evidence. You guys have nothing besides stories and passive aggressive threats of eternal damnation. Pathetic nonsense.

@oldjoe59 @DrFrankTurek What exactly do you mean by “cult literature”? Have you examined the historical evidence for the resurrection, or are you dismissing the New Testament without reading it on its own terms?

When I was in the 4th grade my teacher stood me up in front of the entire class and mocked me because I said that humans weren’t animals. He said “if you’re not an animal you must be a plant.” Then he pretended to water me with a watering can as the class laughed. I said “God made humans over the animals” which drew more ridicule and laughter from the teacher and class. That was the day I began to understand what Jesus meant when He said they would hate me because they hated Him first.

Exactly 1,993 years ago, on April 3, AD 33, it was also Good Friday in the Jewish calendar - Nisan 14/15, the day of Passover preparation. On that historic Friday in Jerusalem, the Lord Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah of Israel, was crucified. This alignment is no accident. God sovereignly ordained the exact day, hour, and year so that the Lamb of God would be slain at the precise moment the Passover lambs were being killed in the temple (see Exodus 12:6; John 1:29; 1 Corinthians 5:7). The four Gospels (Matthew 27, Mark 15, Luke 23, John 18–19) give us the authoritative account. Here is what Scripture tells us happened on that first Good Friday, 1,993 years ago: - Early morning (approx. 1–6 a.m.) – Trials and condemnation - After His arrest in Gethsemane the night before, Jesus was first taken to Annas, then to Caiaphas the high priest and the Sanhedrin. They held an illegal nighttime trial, falsely accusing Him of blasphemy (John 18:12–24; Matthew 26:57–68). - At daybreak, the Jewish leaders brought Him to the Roman governor Pontius Pilate. Pilate questioned Him, found no guilt, but sent Him to Herod Antipas (who was in Jerusalem for Passover). Herod mocked Him and sent Him back (Luke 23:1–12; John 18:28–38). - Pilate offered to release Jesus or Barabbas. The crowd, stirred by the chief priests, chose Barabbas and demanded crucifixion. Pilate had Jesus scourged, mocked with a crown of thorns and purple robe, then handed Him over to be crucified (Matthew 27:11–26; Mark 15:1–15; John 19:1–16). 9 a.m. – Crucifixion begins - Jesus carried His cross to Golgotha (“the Place of a Skull”), outside Jerusalem’s walls. Simon of Cyrene was forced to help Him. He was nailed to the cross between two criminals (Matthew 27:32–38; Mark 15:21–27; Luke 23:26–32; John 19:17–18). - The soldiers divided His garments and cast lots for His tunic, fulfilling Psalm 22:18 (John 19:23–24). - Pilate placed a sign above Him - “Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews” (John 19:19–22). - Jesus spoke from the cross, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34)…to the repentant thief, “Today you will be with me in paradise” (Luke 23:39–43)…to Mary and John, “Woman, behold, your son…Behold, your mother” (John 19:26–27). Noon to 3 p.m. – The darkness and final moments - From the sixth to the ninth hour (noon to 3 p.m.), darkness covered the land. An unmistakable sign of divine judgment (Matthew 27:45; Mark 15:33; Luke 23:44–45; Amos 8:9). - At about 3 p.m., Jesus cried out, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34), quoting Psalm 22 and bearing the full wrath of God for our sins. - Then, “It is finished” (John 19:30). The Greek tetelestai, meaning the debt of sin was paid in full. - Finally, “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit” (Luke 23:46). He bowed His head and gave up His spirit (John 19:30). Immediate aftermath - An earthquake shook the earth. The temple veil was torn from top to bottom, opening the way into God’s presence (Matthew 27:51; Hebrews 10:19–20). - The centurion declared, “Truly this was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:54). - Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus received permission to bury Jesus in a new tomb before sunset (the Sabbath began at 6 p.m.). The women watched as His body was laid in the tomb and a stone was rolled against the entrance (Matthew 27:57–61; Mark 15:42–47; Luke 23:50–56; John 19:38–42). Why does this matter? The Bible presents these events not as legend or myth, but as HISTORICAL REALITY grounded in eyewitness testimony (Luke 1:1–4; 1 Corinthians 15:3–8). Jesus died exactly as the prophets foretold - pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities (Isaiah 53:5; Zechariah 12:10). His death was the once-for-all atonement for sin (Hebrews 9:26–28; 10:10). On this very day 1,993 years ago, the sinless Son of God took your place and mine. It’s Friday, but Sunday is coming…
