Today, we recognize the men and women who keep the lights on across Texas. From the Panhandle to the South Plains, linemen work long hours in tough conditions. They rarely get a thank you for heading out in the middle of a storm to restore power for their neighbors. Our communities depend on them. Our businesses depend on them. Our families depend on them. Today is a good day to say thank you to the folks who literally keep Texas running. #NationalLinemanDay

On Tuesday, after the loss was apparent, Kelly told his supporters, “From the outset of this campaign, I only wanted God to be glorified. If that means he’s glorified by my losing, so be it.”
He meant it, but I know that was not an easy thing to say. He’s a guy who hates losing. And he never really does. Ever. I never seen him lose and he does everything with excellence. Hyper successful in business and politics. Knows his Bible inside and out. Teaches Sunday school. Runs marathons, plural. Profoundly generous in ways nobody sees. Suffers with a smile. Roots for you when he probably shouldn’t. Facing death yet will try to talk you out of giving him a kidney.
As a young man, you don’t realize the influence your wife’s father will eventually have in your life and on your character. Your understanding of the measure of a husband, a father, a worker—a man—will in due time come to be shaped by the man who raised your wife.
I’m grateful for Kelly's influence in my life, I'm grateful for his friendship, and this week, I'm especially grateful for he and Robin's lasting influence on our state through decades of selfless, sacrificial public service.
