If we set up an Irish doge to find savings in public spending to fund a very big cut in fuel Taxes we would run out of popular things to cut very quickly.

@jacknolan__ so likewise a haulier who went out on his own is still a worker Ireland achieved peasant proprietorship of land in the 1800s since then our farms are owned by ordinary workers (the majority of which need 2dn jobs to survive)

@jacknolan__ well yes, the idea that a self employed trades person on a site alongside a directly employed one both doing the same job for the same rate are in different economic classes is daft

@Annie_deBhal @SiobhanCon73085 it kinda suggests you're not overly familiar with the economics of Irish agriculture. 60 acres was a big farm in the 1950s its not now. Like theres a reason PBP and sinn fein the main left parties are supporting them

@Annie_deBhal by your logic self employed trades people aren't working class. thats just not how it works farmers own our land but were still not bourgeoise, marxists never dismissed peasants the way you are hauliers and hire men own the tools of the trade, its like owning a hammer

@EO_Halloran I think you're confusing these protesters with the often irrational leftists. These are quite clear on what they want and quite rational, and government was refusing to engage with them on the totally irrational position that they only engage with organizations.

Its frightening thinking about the media environment a lot of these protesters exist in. Their opinions and feelings come from online hysteria mixed with half truths that give them revolutionary complexes that makes them completely impossible to engage with #fuelProtest

@EO_Halloran i dunno seems to me they're just annoyed by the reality of their fuel bills going up massively and the fact it'd be impossible for them to up their prices to cover the difference, more than anything they saw online

@gunnerineirinn @leebonnie2707 objectively false the protest is actually mostly ag hire men, who do all the big jobs for multiple farmers because its not economically viable for a farm to have massivly expensive equipment they only need once a year.

@leebonnie2707 not all farmers are working class and that’s a fact. the majority out protesting own multiple tractors, huge amounts of land, hire their own employees who are working atm, and can afford to take time off themselves. the working class farmers aren’t protesting, they’re working.

Anyone in rural Ireland giving out about farmers and their equipment should go into their local pub and tell their neighbours, cousins, uncles and aunts who farm that they’re not working class. Let us know how you get on.

I’ve noticed a trend of people objecting to tax because they don’t like specific spending on overseas aid, refugees, Ukraine etc. That can apply to dole, pensions, medical cards, farm subsidies too. If we are all allowed tick areas of spending we don’t want our taxes to fund…

The left has always hated farmers. In their eyes they own land and are rich. We are seeing that hatred come out now, they can’t wait for the army to get violent with them.

@Breandn We do not have a right wing government. If we did you’d be able to name one non left wing policy. But you can’t, because we have a left wing government.
