Simply calculate the current position in the track as a percentage, then set the seek of the faster or slower version to that percentage (calculated back to ms). Then do a quick crossfade

@saltandpixeldev @SeanBialo @grantkirkhope @MasonLieberman I usually take a measurement of the game I'm working on and compare its loudness to the loudness of games in a similar genre, always taking 30 minute measurements from each game that I'm comparing over a range of gameplay scenarios (combat/exploration/dialogue)

@saltandpixeldev @SeanBialo @grantkirkhope @MasonLieberman Remember to measure your game's audio using LUFS (loudness units full scale) over a 30 minute period of time. Make sure the volume of your game falls within recommended audio standards

@saltandpixeldev @SeanBialo @grantkirkhope @MasonLieberman Object pooling is a must for any game, especially ones where limited CPU is available. Spawning & deleting objects is expensive so have a certain number of them available but inactive, then activate them and set the sound on them when needed so you don't have to create a new one

@saltandpixeldev @SeanBialo @grantkirkhope @MasonLieberman Use either a spline or multi-emitter for a base ambient layer. Then at bends, drops, or obstructions in the river, add a single emitter that selects a random loop. This will give you a more realistic and interesting river sound.

@saltandpixeldev @SeanBialo @grantkirkhope @MasonLieberman Splines are cool for coastlines and the base sound for rivers, however, that is not the complete story. Rivers don't sound the same at every point, and in fact, there is often not much sound unless there is an obstruction or waterfall in the river. Try this...

Create a level of detail effect by layering two or more sounds at the same time and setting a smaller attenuation on one layer. An explosion for example. The far layer is a homogenous sound, but as you walk closer you can hear debris.

@saltandpixeldev @SeanBialo @grantkirkhope @MasonLieberman Randomize the pitch and volume of the sound each time it plays. If it's a looping or longer sound, you can even randomize the start position of the sound. This can prevent phasing issues if you only have one version of the sound available and need to play more than one at a time.

@saltandpixeldev @SeanBialo @grantkirkhope @MasonLieberman Randomizing a list of sounds makes them less repetitive. But instead of choosing a random sound, use a shuffle bag to make sure the same sound doesn't play twice in a row. Make sure when you re-shuffle, that the previous last element is not the same as the new first element.
