While most people know Johnny Lee and James Baskett voiced Brer Rabbit in Song of the South, what some people don't know is that Jesse Cryor was the singing voice for the character! Cryor performed "Everybody's Got a Laughing Place"

@CameronTheClown @BrerOswald Laughing Place, How to Do You, Let the Rain Pour down, plenty of others. Plus their instrumental renditions in the Splash Mountain queues are worth a listen.

@BrerOswald The soundtrack, outside of Zip a Dee Doo Da and maybe "That's What Uncle Remus Said" is incredibly forgettable, The animated shorts are fine, but par for the course for Disney at that era. Cinematography is incredibly static. The nothing parts make up like 75% of the film lol

@MortalJim19 @SplashFan2000 It’s not justifying racism, because Br’er Rabbit was quite literally created by black people. The only character JCH made was Remus himself, and he was just used to frame the stories.

@SplashFan2000 I don’t know. That feels too much like justifying racism for the sake of enjoyment for me. Cause the Uncle Remus stories are super racist in my opinion. No insult indended. Just trying to understand

Disney slop consumers attacking the 3 people in the tree of life theatre who didn’t like the new show (they’re accusing them of thinking it’s woke despite the fact the show is just fucking shit)

@PatTheThief Is it possible there’s a set backstage at TDL still? They used the Br’ers pretty frequently up until 2020 in Critter Country.

So these costumes are just in storage and are available for DCE usage.(Disney Character Events). So special events like Run Disney or the after hours parties where they have rare characters out. They definitely destroyed most of these costumes but saved a few for these events.

@PatTheThief So, if these are current as of a couple of months ago, does this mean they’re coming back? or they’re just logged for archival purposes??

@BrerBear4 @SplashFan2000 So you agree the movie was a dark stain & disassociating from it was the right call. So instead of dying on a hill for a now defunct ride, energy would be best spent encouraging a production of a Tristan Stong Disney+ series to continue the traditions of Uncle Remus. Good deal.

@Tee_N_CakesPt2 @SplashFan2000 Disney had absolutely no plans to have Splash rethemed prior to 2020, all you have to do is look at how it was treated in the parks. The ride was always considered its own thing separate from the movie, and was always treated as such.

@SplashFan2000 So you admit that in curiosity, the first instinct is to look up the movie of which it is based only to discover how extremely problematic it is. Which in turn, leads most to question why a multi-billion dollar company would keep such a ride in this day & age?

Nothing like Mickey Mouse singing Splash Mountain songs. One of these files is labeled “Song of the south”

@Starport97 @SplashFan2000 Regardless on Song of the South’s popularity status as a movie or brand at the time (might I add the characters from it have had a presence in the park since the mid 60s) they made arguably the best Disney ride out of it.

@Starport97 @SplashFan2000 The ride isn’t really “about” Song of the South though, it uses elements from it to tell a merger of scenes from it, there’s only one scene in the ride that’s directly pulled from the movie, and even then it’s in a different context.

@Starport97 @SplashFan2000 Also most of the stuff to do with “Splash” that Eisner came up with literally all vetoed by imagineers, and had the name not rolled off the tongue better, they could’ve easily vetoed that too.

@Starport97 @SplashFan2000 Tony Baxter has stated in interviews that the 1986 rerun was done to just see if there was any interest in the characters in what was a 40 year old movie at the time, Tony Goldmark is the only person I’ve seen peddling this idea that Eisner was super super reluctant to do it.
