One of the many things I've enjoyed since retiring is doing some Sunday cover. Consecutive Sundays in two former parishes has been especially enjoyable. Thank you St Stephen's Astley and St Paul's Walkden for the invitations.

Before retiring, I'd almost had enough of Christmas carols by this time in December. Tonight however, I've sung my first Christmas carol of the year - and one of my favourites!

A busy few days in London and a real mix of activity, all greatly enjoyed. Highgate Cemetery also visited (excellent tour), but no photos here.

Finlandia! Again! I used to like this music. Thanks to @BBCRadio3’s relentless playing of it, I’ve fallen out of love with it, & with the hymn sung to it. #EssentialClassics is the place for musical warhorses. #ClassicalLive doesn’t need to rehearse these box pops.

A very enjoyable visit to Lichfield this weekend, the first for several years. A first visit also to the stunning National Memorial Arboretum. Both places are on the list for further visits. My father was a Bevin Boy, hence the interest in the memorial @Nat_Mem_Arb @LichfieldCath

I retired two years ago today. How time flies when you're having fun!

I think today was only my second ever visit to Saltaire. What a lovely place - still lots to see and do on another occasion!

Day 322 (Part 1): This morning we attended the funeral service of Mary Atherton. Mary worked at the council in many roles but her last job was working with the Mayor’s Team. It was a beautiful service with many family and friends in attendance along with a large number of past Mayors and Honorary Alderman/Alderwoman paying their respects. #TeamBolton #togetherstronger Mayor of Bolton

It's been a wonderful holiday in Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC, but there are some things that are only at their best in the UK!

After four days in Washington DC, it's time to set off for the airport and journey home. DC's been breathtaking!
