Here's the data about religious attendance from two of the "gold standard" surveys in the polling world. 18-29 year olds are 4 points more likely to never attend religious services than 30-49 year olds. 2-4 points less likely to be weekly attenders. No revival to be found.

Members of the Silent Generation (1925-1945) did become more religiously engaged as they aged. Baby Boomers attend church at the exact same rate today as they did when they were 30-44 years old. That's also true for Gen X. And, so far, it's true for Millennials.

There is no surge of Catholicism among Gen Z. The 2023 Cooperative Election Study showed a surge in Catholic numbers. It was clearly an outlier. The 2024 data was right back to baseline - 15%.

It’s interesting that Philip Yancey makes his big confession and withdraws from public ministry at the age of retirement. I truly hope he’s repentant & not just sorry someone caught him.

Like many, I was heartbroken over the news that highly respected Christian author Philip Yancey, now 76 years old, was involved in an 8-year adulterous relationship. Every time this happens it stings, but it stings worse with the many I have known personally. epm.org/resources/2026…

By now, those who inhabit the universe associated with contemporary evangelicalism have heard and lamented the sorrowful news about the fall of the much-loved writer, Philip Yancey. I knew Philip from the days we served together as writers at Christianity Today magazine. Back then, we who were regular writers for the magazine comprised a small contingent of strugglers who were trying to find our way in the life of faith (as we understood it then) and who shared this sojourn very publicly with our readers. Life has done its work over all of us. And I'm sorry to see Philip's legacy end like this. The state of one's soul, at this stage, is so much more important than the state of one's reputation, so that is where my prayers for Philip abide, as reflected in the piece I've written as my good-bye to him. wendymurray.substack.com/p/good-bye-phi…

There is no empirical evidence of a religious revival happening in America. Among people born in the 2000s: 42% identify as Protestant or Catholic 44% identify as non-religious.
