@Ecnerwal23 Coaches aren’t there to get an education and a degree. I realize it is laughable to raise this, but these ARE institutions of higher learning here even though they are acting like pro sports teams.

They should absolutely not be able to transfer to 4 different schools in 4 years though that’s over the top. I’m all for a 1 time transfer just because and an additional transfer if a coach quits or gets fired or some other bizarre circumstance. I’m also all for dudes getting paid give them contracts pay them what they want, but they have to be held to their contract. But my opinion, the pendulum has swung way too far with dudes Going to four different schools in four years. You don’t even see that in pro sports.

@davidaldridgedc Need to go to multi-year contracts that have clear buy out clauses in them. Contracts could include clauses related to coaches leaving reducing the buy out and things like that. You can’t legally prevent someone from job hopping for a money grab, but buy out makes em think.

I am rapidly coming to believe the European soccer transfer model should be adapted for NCAA D1 hoops. Mid- and low majors have to get some kind of compensation when they lose half of their teams to the portal in two weeks:

There are currently 2,901 players in the men’s basketball transfer portal, opening 14 hours ago. With only 5,607 Division I players total, more than half of the player pool is now in the portal.

@KC5Enthusiast I would expect every player to enter the portal so that they have options with the uncertainty around who the coach would be. Doesn’t mean they will all be gone.

Alabama coach Nate Oats said during his @SXMCollege interview this afternoon that he is now engaged. Oats and his ex-wife, Crystal, divorced in 2023. Oats on Alabama's series with St. John's: "Me and Alex [Accetta] -- my fiancee now, she was my girlfriend at the time -- we were at a Knicks playoff game, and I'm sitting there at [Madison Square] Garden. I'm like, 'Hold on.' I'm a high school coach and I got an opportunity to coach in here, and I'm gonna say no?"

@jfazli @arlowhite There are probably 20 teams from Europe that deserve to be in the top 35 in the world. They have the Euros for all those teams. It is the WORLD Cup, not just the best teams in the world by ranking. Italy is odd because they go on runs in the Euros and then don’t make WC?!

The tiny little UEFA teams like Andorra and Lichtenstein would beat Curaçao.

@DukeInDepth Freshmen. Great freshmen, but freshmen. Lack of experience led to mental mistakes those last couple of minutes that a more experienced team doesn’t make. Foster being at 20% capability also hurt. He was ineffective today IMO.

And all Duke needed to do was dribble until they were fouled. No need to force any pass that wasn't wide open. Hoos remember a very similar ending a couple years back.
