The leader of Fine Gael in the EU parliament, Seán Kelly MEP, today suggested in an article in the Sunday Independent, that Ireland should support the end of the veto for EU member states at European Council level. This would mean the end of any meaningful national democracy, not just for Ireland, but for the whole of Europe. The direction of our nations would be decided by unelected bureaucrats in the EU commission. And our elections at national level would cease to have any meaning whatsoever. Irish neutrality would die on the altar of "international obligations" and we would almost certainly be drawn into global conflicts that the EU felt suit their economic interests. He stresses that this must be forced through quickly and without much scrutiny, so as to reduce the possibility of any country electing a leader on the populist right or left who might disagree with this course of action. This is nothing but disdain for national sovereignty and the democratic decisionmaking of ordinary citizens. Mr. Kelly feels that the Irish population are so overwhelmingy pro- EU that none of this would matter to them. He cites EU funded Eurobarometer polling. If he is so sure that this is the case, he should be advocating a referendum to decide the matter. I cannot believe the current state of our politicians who have so much disdain for democracy. They should hang their heads in shame.

EU enters full Owellian mode, where words start to mean the opposite of what they once did.. …placing the word “DEMOCRACY” on the side of the EU HQ in Brussels—an institution now with arguably more power than any other in Europe, and one where not a single person is elected.

.@vonderleyen "The European #AgeVerification app is technically ready. It respects the highest privacy standards in the world. It's open-source, so anyone can check the code..." I did. It didn't take long to find what looks like a serious #privacy issue. The app goes to great lengths to protect the AV data AFTER collection (is_over_18: true is AES-GCM'd); it does so pretty well. But, the source image used to collect that data is written to disk without encryption and not deleted correctly. For NFC biometric data: It pulls DG2 and writes a lossless PNG to the filesystem. It's only deleted on success. If it fails for any reason (user clicks back, scan fails & retries, app crashes etc), the full biometric image remains on the device in cache. This is protected with CE keys at the Android level, but the app makes no attempt to encrypt/protect them. For selfie pictures: Different scenario. These images are written to external storage in lossless PNG format, but they're never deleted. Not a cache... long-term storage. These are protected with DE keys at the Android level, but again, the app makes no attempt to encrypt/protect them. This is akin to taking a picture of your passport/government ID using the camera app and keeping it just in case. You can encrypt data taken from it until you're blue in the face... leaving the original image on disk is crazy & unnecessary. From a #GDPR standpoint: Biometric data collected is special category data. If there's no lawful basis to retain it after processing, that's potentially a material breach. youtube.com/watch?v=4VRRri…

@Paul_Reviews @vonderleyen It has been obvious from the beginning, this was never going to be an age verification app, but a digital ID app designed to control Europeans.

Thank you @EmmanuelMacron for organising a call with G7 partners to discuss a coordinated response to the concerning situation in Iran and the Middle East. We are focused on minimising the impact on security and the global energy market. @eucopresident and I recalled that the immediate priority is to keep energy flows moving, especially navigation through the Strait of Hormuz - critical for the global economy. Enforcing the oil price cap will help stabilise markets and limit Russia’s revenues. This is not the moment to relax sanctions on Russia. We both welcomed today’s decision by the IEA to make 400 million barrels of emergency reserve oil available to ease tensions in global energy supply. We agreed to work closely with partners in the region to prevent broadening of the conflict and restore stability.

Lindsey Graham: ‘I’m not with you. I’m with Israel. I’ll be with Israel until my dying day.’ US politics has become a bizarre contest of politicians competing with each other to prove who can love Israel the most. The result is the US military being endlessly used for Netanyahu’s wars. What’s even more puzzling is that Lindsey Graham is unhinged enough to think the UAE and Saudi Arabia should be enthusiastic to join the war on Iran, as if by nature, every country should be willing to sacrifice itself like the United States does for Benjamin Netanyahu.
Going Underground@GUnderground_TV

🚨BREAKING: Trump implicitly threatens to target Iran’s civilian infrastructure to make it ‘VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE’ for Iran to be built back as a nation, if Iran attacks ships in the Strait of Hormuz. The US’ war to ‘liberate the Iranian people’ reveals itself to be the war to annihilate the Iranian people.
