@elonmusk What would the platform be? 1) Fiscal responsibility & debt reduction 2) Human race sustainability: Clean Energy/air/water, Sust. Transport, Mars, more babies, less war 3) Economic growth via abundant, localized labor: robot & human 4) First Principles over dogma/BS 5) Democracy

Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system! Should we create the America Party?

@MadsTorgersen Style question: Foo x = new(...); or var x = new Foo(...); We've been thinking var is cool if Foo is a simple type. But if it's too complicated, like a Dictionary<Container<Y>, List<Tuple<...>>> then the type on the left is more helpful.

@ddoomen I misread what you wrote. I thought you were talking about rebasing topic branches onto main when merging a pr, but realized you were referring to the reverse; getting the latest main changes into your topic and I agree with you. :)

I look at history all day, every day of a very large, churning code base, and the need for a straight line history is greatly exaggerated. In fact, I prefer merge because it has the benefit of rebase by maintaining self-contained commits while leaving PR/rollback boundaries.
Dennis Doomen@ddoomen

I really don't get how people can work with #git feature branches that have daily merges from main/master in them. It becomes such a mess. A rebase keeps it so much cleaner.

@JigarShahDC I agree this is achievable for homes enrolled in a program. But we need a change of mindset for both utilities and consumers. We've seen utilities struggle valuing distribution grid impacts of Demand Flexibility. And consumers need to be willing to "pitch in" for the common good.

@davkean Congrats David! I *can* imagine doing something else, but I didn't drift too far away. I just sent in some feedback on a minor VS issue today.

I was reminded that my tenure at Microsoft is now an adult; 18 years. All of which I've spent building dev platforms and tools. Still loving it, and can't imagine doing anything else. We've also hiring again, come join us in "DevDiv": jobs.careers.microsoft.com/global/en/sear…

@russ_conser @clawrence @BretCoffman @CNBC It has felt like that since 2018. I thought 2024 would be the year when everything is finally lined up, but the NACS switch probably set everything back by a year. I'll be reassessing this in 2 weeks with EVSE manufacturers.

@BrianGrunk @clawrence @BretCoffman @CNBC Yea, last I looked, bidirectional charging hardware and software options pretty limited. But still doable, and such a value proposition could be the thing that drives development and deployment. Just feels like a killer app waiting to happen?

@clawrence @BretCoffman @russ_conser @CNBC Absolutely. V2G is promising, but requires good battery chemistry (or a rental model), installed home electronics (like disconnect switches), regulatory frameworks, hardware that supports bidirectional charging and software standard improvements. Managed charging's time is now.

I don’t expect people will be discharging their battery often to support the grid - mainly in emergency situations, or to power their home off-grid when the grid is down. Just simply shifting your charging time will be quite valuable to the grid to reduce peak demand and is how EVs are currently supporting VPPs.

@clawrence @Gibson_Greeting @amolwankhede @CNBC There's more value for some types of utilities, if you look closely. We have several value streams identified, with a unique proof point. For consumers, saving on TOU rates via Demand Flexibility managed by software is a big win. With wholistic thinking, utilities save $$$ too.

@gargantuandwarf @clawrence @CNBC Which types of resources do you think are problematic? And is there an approach you think works better, such as behavioral or active management of assets? In my experience, software that is fully aware of an asset's duty cycle and designed around the end user is acceptable.

@terrajobst Sword Art Online was pretty good for its day (even with all its flaws). But that doesn't mean it's a good idea to build a life-threatening death trap posing as a game in real life. You want inventors to ask the question, "should this exist?" Never mind network hiccups or bugs...

@terrajobst Hey Immo, what's the guidance on libraries these days? Should they target .NET Standard 2.1, or .NET 6? Known consumers are server side and a Xamarin app.

@Gfilche Smart thinking Gali. Your videos show how hard it is. Tried 520 westbound w/ construction? I don't. Come to Redmond. No FSD at the Vegas Loop, in a purpose-built tunnel. Real test is a concert - park on a grass field directed by human hand signals. Insurmountable for 5 years.

still not 100% convinced tesla will generate revenue from an autonomous ridesharing network. fsd development been consistently over promised and underdelivered. maybe it’s cuz of the tiny streets in Seattle, but I never use it 🤷‍♂️

@kimdhamilton I've wanted to follow one standard, but they want to charge $15K for a status report. That's a little steep. But if you listen to the right people, you find out they have an architectural flaw in their approach, so you're already ahead.

Can’t get my head around paying for standards with money. I’m used to *paying* for them with blood, tears, and years off my life. Are there any gentlewoman’s agreements, as it were, to allow access to ISO specs for those who’ve paid in other ways?
