The Zimbabwean accent in a foreign land is almost a class signal. Lose it and you may get better service. Keep it and you get assumptions. Some of us code-switch without thinking. That adaptation is survival, not shame.
Answer yourself honestly. Do you modify your accent or how you present yourself to avoid being identified as Zimbabwean in a foreign land?
I say, there is a dignity question buried deep in the accent conversation. The day you stop changing your voice is the day you decide your origin is not something to manage.
Most of us haven't reached that day yet.

@LynneStactia The bit that is not being talked about is that, they had to pay some money upfront to facilitate the deal. Someone list some money in addition to the embarrassment. This was a big scam

Tungwaz told ED that he knew people who had access to 300bn euros of money taken away from Iran due to sanctions. The money needed to be removed from Switzerland and sent somewhere. The deal was the 300 billion comes to Zimbabwe, and the facilitators get half, and Zim keeps half. HE was told this was a scam. He believed Tungwarara and they even arranged a ceremony and were given a date. Airpor security beefed up and ED cleared his day waiting for an aeroplane with "bags of cash" to land. He waited the whole day for the bags of money🤦♂️

They posited that nations fail when a small elite designs systems to extract wealth and power, instead of creating conditions where everyone can participate and benefit.

@MitchellMGumbo The stealing schemes come in different guises, all designed to extract from the people & enrich elites. Currency changes, fuel blending, traffic fines, ZIMURA. The govt announces plans to reduce fees, but new scams sprout elsewhere becoz the system's expertise is extracting.
