INEOS will try lift the mood next week by bringing in a nostalgic caretaker manager while ignoring the weaknesses in this squad.
Don’t fall for it. How can anyone be even the slightest bit optimistic about the rest of the season now?
Our ceiling is Europa League qualification…
Remember when he came in, fresh faced, tanned, suave, looking like the fucking man?
Not even 9 months later and he's completely broken.
This club. It's a fucking curse.
@jonmikesav8 A lot of the younger ones should start. If a professional footballer can't adjust to a new system in over half a season then he needs binned.
The writing is on the wall, we've been here many times before over the last 10 years.
I've always defended this Ten Hag team from the argument of them 'throwing the towel in' and 'not playing for the manager'. Even the shitshow that was the end of last season ... I still didn't feel like the team was up to it's usual tricks of just simply not playing.
After today, that optimism and defiance is in the bin. Today's performance could have been under Moyes, LVG, Jose, Ole or even Rangnick, and we wouldn't have been able to tell the difference. It was that shite and that relatable to every manager we've had who has unfortunately ended up playing their way in to an inevitable sacking.
Pathetic, spineless, lazy, uninspiring and defeated from the start. Recency bias shouldn't be underestimated but I do honestly believe that this was our worst overall performance in a very, very long time. Considering we've lost 4-0 to Palace, 3-0 to Bournemouth, threw a 3-0 lead away to Coventry and have been pummeled 7-0 to Liverpool in recent memory, that's quite a fucking statement.
He's had 5 transfer windows now and this is very much his team. The cup saved him last season with the league finish being swept under the carpet. I backed him and wanted to give him time due to the structure/injuries/general habit of restarting the manager merry-go-round. 6 games in to a new league season and it's as bad as it's ever been.
We've lost 8 of our last 20 home league games and our away form isn't much better, or is it worse? I have no idea at this point and I don't have the energy to look it up. Porto away next, followed by Villa away. I just can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I've never called for a manager to be booted and I won't start now, but I'm not naive and ignorant enough to acknowledge that it's looking like he's not going to be in a position to turn this around and take us to where we are aiming to be.
I'm as miserable tonight as I have been in many a year.
Fuck this, I'm having another beer.
