@Enquirer Why are we writing articles about Reds no longer on the team? I liked Nick but come on. Lots of good stories about current Reds trying to make the big league roster. Let's talk about them.

Nick Martinez was an undervalued, unsung hero for the Cincinnati Reds pitching staff the last 2 years. Now with Tampa Bay, he's sorely missed by Reds. cincinnati.com/story/sports/m…

Brad. I hate tolls and taxes. The solution unfortunately is a toll. But not where you'd expect. Put it in Grant County and in Butler County. Not at the actual bridge. Day to day users inside the 275 loop pay no daily toll. Only truckers and travellers on the way through town. Residents in Grant County get a yearly pass (appox 20k passes). For hosting the tolls in their county and they get a small percentage for their infrastructure. This is the way.

Over the past 20 years, traffic projections (dotted lines) have been repeatedly wrong about growth on the Brent Spence Bridge. Actual traffic (solid blue) has not increased, and costs have quadrupled. Do we need a new companion bridge (the old bridge is staying) at any cost?

19 years ago, a high school basketball coach put his team manager into a game for the final four minutes. The kid had never played a single minute of competitive basketball in his life. He scored 20 points. Jason McElwain was diagnosed with severe autism at age two. He didn’t speak until he was five. He couldn’t chew solid food until he was six. He wore a nappy for most of his early childhood. As a baby, he was rigid, wouldn’t make eye contact, and hid in corners away from other children. He tried out for his school basketball team every year and got cut every time. Too small. Too slight. Barely 5’6 and about 54 kilograms. But he loved the game so much that his mum called the school and asked if there was any way he could be involved. The coach created a team manager role for him. For three years, McElwain showed up to every practice and every game. He wore a shirt and tie on match days. He ran drills, handed out water, kept stats, and cheered every basket like he’d scored it himself. On 15 February 2006, the last home game of his final school year, the coach let him suit up in a proper jersey and sit on the bench. With four minutes left and a comfortable lead, the coach sent him in. His first shot missed. His second missed. Then something shifted. He hit a three-pointer. Then another. Then another. His teammates stopped shooting entirely and just kept passing him the ball. He hit six three-pointers and a two-pointer. 20 points in four minutes. The highest scorer in the game. When the final buzzer went, the entire crowd rushed the court and lifted him onto their shoulders. His mum tapped the coach on the shoulder, in tears. “This is the nicest gift you could have ever given my son.” McElwain won the ESPY Award for Best Moment in Sports that year, beating out some of the biggest names in professional sport. He’s 36 now. He works at a local supermarket, coaches basketball, has run 17 marathons including five Boston Marathons, and travels the country speaking about never giving up. When asked about that night, his coach still gets emotional. “For him to come in and seize the moment like he did was certainly more than I ever expected. I was an emotional wreck.”

The difference between pros and amateurs.... Sepp Straka has hit 21-of-36 greens this week. Of the 15 greens he's missed, he is one-under par. He's gotten up-and-down 14 times. The other time, he chipped in for birdie. These guys are good.

Except that they charge you a delivery fee or "handling fee" every time their guy or gal brings you an item. And they are happy to come every day even if it's just for a cutting blade or a face mask. And also the pricing goes up when the purchasing department isn't paying attention bc they believe they can set it and forget it. Brilliant of Fastenal. Not so smart for purchasing folks. It does cut down on Ralph grabbing a new pair of gloves every day though.

I love capitalism. I just did a quote for a massive construction company. As I walked through their offices, I found a huge room of blue Fastenal vending machines. They were filled with tools, drill bits, blades, hardhats, etc. Each one had a price on the window. Intrigued, I asked the owner what is the story on these. He mentioned to me that Fastenal comes in and stocks up all the different types of tools and PPE this specific construction company needs. Everything is priced way above Home Depot or Lowe’s prices. The construction company only pays for the tools or items whenever somebody actually “buys” them vs stocking 200 hard hats at once or keeping inventory of miscellaneous tools. This saves the company countless hours of labor since the employee doesn’t have to go to Home Depot or Lowe’s aka travel time, walking around the store, and scrolling on Instagram in the parking lot. Less time shopping for tools = more time working and charging the customer. Owner said no matter how much they spend on the parts in these machines, they save ten fold on labor. Of course the machine also automatically tracks when inventory is low and a guy comes out to fill it back up. Fucking genius. Only in America! 🇺🇸🏃🏻‍♂️💨🏁

I believe every purse made between 1970 and 1985 came with a roll of these in it because I don’t know any adult woman from that era who couldn’t produce one within 10 seconds on demand.
