Today has proven that this site really is the festering pile of dogshit many accused it of being. I’ll be spending a lot less time here going forward. Will still be checking in w/my baseball card peeps, but will be reading/commenting a lot less on politics here going forward.

@Brian_Chovanec @alfranken Yeah. Of course. No one should be whitewashing a war hawk two-faced piece of shit like Lindsey Graham. He is a BAD politician. He is the poster child for disingenuous pay-for-play death politics. Fuck him. I’m glad he’s gone.

Saddened to hear of Lindsay’s death though we so regularly disagreed. But he was a good friend and an amazingly effective Senator. Also, the funniest. One Christmas break I told him my family was going to Puerto Rico. He said, “Do two fundraisers. One for those who are pro-statehood and one for those who are against it. They never talk to each other.”

Colleagues in genocide maybe has a different meaning for you. Most of us find it unbearably disgusting. His death may actually save a lot of lives.

No comment is an option for you and me. For politicians, especially those who served with him in the Senate and or aspire to higher office in the near future (Harris is both), not commenting is not a realistic option, just a simple bland statement, as this is, is all that is needed.

This is how reasonable people behave when a colleague, even one you disagree with, passes. Be aware of those who cannot resist the urge to pile on with negativity in this moment.

I am saddened to learn of the passing of my former colleague, Senator Lindsey Graham. He was full of wit, energy, and charm, and he cared deeply about the Senate and the people of South Carolina. Doug and I are sending our thoughts and our prayers to his friends and loved ones.

“Do you think he should have just gone out like Jeff Flake or Adam Kinzinger?” This question begs a follow up question? Do you (the politician in question) think that Trump is an existential danger to the republic? Flake sometime in 2018 determined his answer was yes, Kinzinger determined his answer was yes, after January 6th. for me, it has always been yes. Graham obviously thinks no. The actions of all the above flow directly from that answer to that question, not analyzing legislative constitutional strategy.

Lindsey Graham became far more powerful and influential under Trump. Literally every anti-Trump Republican got primaried out or retired. The reality is that anti-Trump Republicans were beloved by liberal elites who gave them a pat on the head but refused to vote for them. You have to appeal to your voters. Graham maximized the Trump era to pursue the agenda items he cared most about. He was a smart politician. Do you think he should've just gone out like Jeff Flake or Adam Kinzinger?
santos-inistas@JDabknee

it’s fun to call him gay … but he should also be remembered as someone who betrayed everything he ever believed in to remain in good graces with the world’s biggest narcissist.

@beagewill @alfranken As for Palestinians specifically re-Graham, my thoughts are best summed up by this poster, who states it more eloquently than I ever could:

@alfranken Thank you, sir, for posting this. You seem to be getting some flak for it. Haters gonna hate, but decency and civility need to make a comeback, and thank you for exhibiting that here today.

@Tinaleigh777 @alfranken Insulting to who? It’s insulting to other unrelated people to say nice things about someone when they die? No it’s not. It’s just what calm reasonable rational people do. I’m learning today how few of those people actually exist on Twitter.

@beagewill @alfranken He was referencing events from long ago prior to that. Also, when someone dies, it’s custom to pause for a day and remember the positives about them. It’s what rational, reasonable, civilized people do. I’m learning today how few of those people actually exist on Twitter.

Jill and I are shocked by the sudden passing of Lindsey Graham. Lindsey and I served together in Congress for over a decade, and worked closely on many issues throughout the years. We traveled the world together as members of the Senate Foreign Relations committee. We disagreed often, and sometimes loudly. Lindsey and I did agree on the profound importance of public service. Like me, he loved the Senate as an institution, even with all its flaws and complexities. To his family, his staff, his constituents in South Carolina, and everyone who loved him: Jill and I are keeping you in our prayers.

@paulsca75800710 @AnnieAndrewsMD It’s smart politics. She’s running for his seat so would be stupid to trash him today. Show that you’re above the negativity that has dominated us for so long. Let her cook.

You got it half right. Divided government is what really makes this work. Preferably Republican legislature and Democratic chief executive. Worked most notably on the federal level in the mid to late 1990s. When control is all on one side (either side) that side gets greedy. The compromise required by divided government is what truly creates fiscal responsibility.

Periodic reminder that “You didn’t tweet about what I think you should have tweeted about” is one of the lowest forms of Twitter replies. Relatedly: “You didn’t tweet what I wanted you to tweet about on my timetable” is also very dumb. Your expectations are not my obligations.
