The event will feature discussions on ecological planning, alternative economic coordination, directed technological change and societal design. @Larkinite1913 Of course it is correct to say that military effectiveness per se is no proof of socialism. That was not my point. So let me clarify that here.

@Larkinite1913 I mentioned their defeat of ISIS to highlight the error in lumping Rojava into an amorphous “horizontalist” category, as if they couldn’t organise themselves out of a paper bag. Clearly they can, whether in military terms or political economic.

Very weird that Rojava is never mentioned as “actually existing socialism”. But typical for avowedly non-statist projects to be written out of history.

@Larkinite1913 This is called moving the goalposts. First the point was that Rojava is an example of “horizontalism” and not “serious”. That’s what I responded to. Now the point is that the USSR defeated the Nazis.

@BrightAgeBeyond We are not going to be doing war libertarianism in Europe. Glory to all those in Rojava who fought ISIS, but you people routinely scoff at similar defences of the USSR (it defeated the Nazis), even though it was precisely the planning model you despise that made victory possible.

@Larkinite1913 It sounds like you’re lumping Rojava in with Occupy Wall Street. Are you? Because surely a system of federated communes with complex administration can’t be compared. Also they successfully defeated ISIS. In what world is that “not serious”?

@AcidCommunistAC They have a large cooperative sector and a system of communal planning. Their stated goal is a libertarian socialist society.

@BrightAgeBeyond Not that AESs often succeeded in that regard but how is Rojava socialist?

On the 8th of November, we will present our concept of “firm-based planning” at this year’s Historical Materialism Conference @histmat in London.

Furthermore, many leftists will jump up and down about the anti-imperialist character of China, but have no interest defending in Rojava, even when undergoing genocide from NATO’s Turkey. Very disappointing.

Why is it more radical to suggest that billionaires should not exist-- in the same way emperors shouldn't-- or that the 1% of richest wealth holders should be less rich, than to unquestionably allow the system to murder 100 million poor people every 5~ years for a lack of $?
