How can anyone defend this? Fake asylum seekers including one already on the run for murder brutally raped a woman on Brighton beach and filmed it for Snapchat. Instead he continues posting about antisemitism and extra policing for Jewish communities. I feel sick with guilt for that young woman, as we all should for letting this happen. I also understand it’s a time of self denial and prayer, not a spectacle like others. However, basic fairness and care for the less fortunate matters. For example, lower income Christians might want to observe Friday abstinence faithfully but struggle with costs. A simple seasonal fish deal would remove an unnecessary burden without erasing the discipline consistent with Christianity’s mercy alongside fasting.
