If you want to know if you are on the right side of history, ask yourself these questions: *am I inspired by kindness to the persecuted? *do I base my views on provable factual evidence? *do I change my mind when I learn new facts that disprove old ones? Yes to all = 👍

@francescoS117 @weisselbergers Homer may very well not have been real, not as one man anyway. He is not mentioned as a human being by history. Homer may just be a name for many bards evolving epic poetry.

@weisselbergers Homer was real, what is disputed is his “authorship” over the Odyssey. He didn’t create the story of Odysseus, he just compiled centuries of oral tradition.

@SusieBBPDM @Heccles94 Times have changed. England is no longer a religious country and the symbols of Christianity have been weaponised by haters who have no Christian beliefs. That’s the problem.

@Heccles94 I don't understand? Are you opposed to religion? I'm 62 - certainly in my youth we were very much a religious country. Shops weren't allowed to open on Sunday. We weren't even allowed out to play. Too many religions - we can't just ban them all.

Petrifying displays of white supremacy. Since when did the UK get infected with christo-fascism? This isn’t the USA…

@RestoreNationGB @Heccles94 That would be fine if English ppl - which is what you mean by “British” - observed western civilisation and Christianity. But they don’t. Those who join these marches substitute hatred of others for that.

😂 ‘Petrifying white supremacy’? It’s trees and a flag in Britain, you clown. The UK didn’t ‘get infected’ with Christo-fascism. We built Western civilisation on Christianity for 1,400 years - cathedrals, common law, the language you’re crying in. Native Brits are sick of elites calling our own heritage ‘supremacy’. Britain belongs to the British. Full stop.

@garyduckworth11 @Heccles94 England is very effectively isolating itself right now, from the other UK countries, from Europe, from everyone except MAGAS. Not a good place to be.

@bmj_latest Despite this being a ‘British’ organisation, Scots should be aware this doesn’t apply to them as the SNP/ScotGov took steps to ensure Palantir has no access to our data. If Sarwar was FM, of course, it would be a different matter.

It will be hilarious if the voters of Manchester refuse to obey and elect someone who isn’t Andy Burnham. Things have changed since July 2024 and the risk must be very great.

So let me get this straight: Labour hold the seat in Makerfield but they have called a by-election, due to their MP standing down. There is now a real risk Reform win the seat, but if the Greens stand a strong candidate and campaign to win, it’s the Green’s fault if Labour lose.

👀 WATCH Reform voters waking up to Reform policies, brilliant 🤩 video “Privatising the NHS… Oh Jesus no.” “Support zero hour contracts… I don’t want that.” “Reducing minimum wage… It’s already not worth working as it is.” My favourite at end: “They’re trying to reform like a Dickensian authority where we are living in smog and no one has any rights unless you’re rich or white.”

@Mersecrofter @FortressLugh If we want Gaelic speakers, we teach children Gaelic. That’s how the Welsh and Irish did it, it’s never going to be instant.

@FortressLugh Gaelic is a dying language and has no place past historical interest in modern Scotland. It's not going to come back unless you import tens of thousands of Gaelic speaking immigrants into the country... and they don't exist.

Kevin MacLean (Fortress of Lugh)
It was only in the later 15th century that Scots started to refer to the English speaking Scots, and Gaelic was labeled Erse. Before that, English speaking Scots were called, and called themselves, Inglis, while Gaels were called Scots. It is true that every language in Scotland is an import, even the Celtic language, and the Bell Beakers language before it. Such is the case almost everywhere. However, Gaelic has a far longer presence in Scotland than English, and it was the language of the people who founded the state, and the identity called Scots. The English in the southeast of Scotland also extinguished the native Brythonic language there which preceded it. Migration from Northern England into Scottish burghs when the Gaels lost political power through comprador figures shifted the language far more than simply the influence from early English populations in the southeast. The language shift from Gaelic to English was the result of a loss of political power and an elite that favoured English and facilitated English immigration.
Hereward the Woke@BamaExpat

Scotland’s relationship to Gaelic is sort of odd in that it was an Irish import that wiped out Pictish, and Scotland’s domestic sister language to English (Scots) actually pre-dates Gaelic in the southeast by at least a couple of centuries.

@Roni56248402 @BlokeOnWheels The odd thing is that so many DM readers are old. And old people tend to acquire disabilities as they age. But of course THEIR disabilities don’t show moral degeneracy, do they, and they DESERVE benefits and consideration.🤮🤮🤮🤮

This one goes out to the ridiculous woman. I saw a screenshot of earlier today who reckons that people on benefits shouldn't be allowed to go to pubs and other recreational places (I wish I had taken a screenshot myself now. A few years ago, she also thought that disabled people could just "start a business from Home" as if it's as simple as clicking your fingers together (which ironically enough I can't do)
