The BSA has previously been commissioned only to deal with radio and television broadcasters. It has decided after legal advice to broaden its reach. Defenders of free speech are unimpressed & are lobbying for the BSA to be shut down as an anachronistic organisation that has outlived its usefulness. If it ever had any. Goldsmith has prevaricated for almost a year. His first excuse was that as minister he has no power to intervene. This is nonsense. The BSA is not making one of its usual decisions. Its assuming a licence to radically expand its jurisdiction. Of course Goldsmith can tell it to pull in its horns. His second excuse is the govt has other priorities. This is National once again refusing to fight the culture war. Why? They don't see the culture war as important because they're mostly in agreement with leftist strategies. They therefore don't understand how much political ground they're conceding. This is just one more vote losing public relations disaster for National. Apparently they can't get enough of them. (Note- this is an edited version of the HDPA interview. After cutting Mr Goldmsith's repeated words, his umms and ahhs and his hesitations it has been reduced by almost 2 minutes.
