We saw Ms. Flack in Brookland periodically. Her godfather, Revered Bob Johnson lived on 12th St NE into his 90’s and she would visit. She was always bubbly and kind to us and our dog. RIP, Queen.

A year ago yesterday, Roberta Flack died. Her DC ties are strong—she attended Howard University on a full piano scholarship, taught in DC Public Schools, & got her break playing 5 nights a week at Mr. Henry’s on Capitol Hill. The cover photo of her first album was also shot there
