I just want to make clear that I did not bribe any coaches or admissions officers at the Wall Street Journal for this headline. wsj.com/articles/the-s…

1/n: I could be wrong, of course, but my take about this hantavirus outbreak is less about the actual outbreak and more about what it means in the context of the last two decades and moving forward. Let me explain...

The difference between Bloom and Kermode was that Kermode was a scholar of literature, whereas Bloom looked upon the inside of his eyelids and thereupon discovered a machine for the endless manufacture of literary theory.
Rhodri Lewis@profrhodrilewis

As Harold Bloom has been having a moment on here (let it never be said that these things don't go in cycles), here's Kermode in March 1976--explaining to Bob Silvers why he won't, after all, review Bloom's Poetry and Repression for the NYRB.

This morning I called James and congratulated him on becoming the Senate nominee. Texas is primed to turn blue and we must remain united because this is bigger than any one person. This is about the future of all 30 million Texans and getting America back on track. With the primary behind us, Democrats must rally around our nominees and win. I’m committed to doing my part and will continue working to elect democrats up and down the ballot.

I grieve for the three American service members who have been killed in action. My heart is with their families, and all those who are recovering from injuries as a result of this conflict with Iran.

@trefinedAura @zandpreme I love this point. My favorite piece of her writing is "From Elfland to Poughkeepsie." That essay's knife is sharp.

@CaitlinPacific fwiw (maybe not much) Roth is talking not about segregationism but about the Helms Amendment, which inaugurated a grand tradition of ridiculing (and attempting to censor) federal funds recipients in arts & humanities. chronicle.com/article/helms-…

While Rep. Jasmine Crockett was in Texas meeting with voters, James Talarico was in Hollywood nodding along with Lauren Boebert. Not sure how hanging out with Bill Maher and Lauren Boebert is helping Texans.
Adam Cochran (adamscochran.eth)@adamscochran

As Crockett continues an attack based campaign, it’s clear that both these politicians care: * Jasmine Crockett cares about getting elected. * James Talarico cares about you.

When MAGA Lauren Boebert goes out of her way to congratulate a Texas "Democrat" on national television, every alarm bell should be ringing. We tried to warn y'all James Talarico is a MAGA plant.

@mehdirhasan I’m didn’t suggest gender. I’m legitimately asking why he supports Ossoff and wouldn’t support Harris. I think the logical conclusion - which you brought up here - is gender, but maybe it’s age. I have no idea. I only know it’s discordant.

Ossoff is a moderate and pragmatic Dem who holds many of the same positions on issues as Kamala Harris, including defense funding for Israel. I’d argue Harris is more progressive on healthcare. So how come Piker supports him but couldn’t support her?
Popstonox@Popstonox

Adam Mockler asks Hasan Piker who he wants to run in the 2028 Democratic primary "The candidates I like are, obviously AOC, Ro Khanna, Chris Van Hollen. The dark horse is someone like John Stewart or a Shawn Fain. And then my sleeper pick, John Ossoff"

Sometimes a student in one of my fiction writing classes will come see me during office hours and inform me they’re going to be a novelist. I always ask the same question: “Who are your favorite authors?” An alarming number of students can’t name a single novelist. Not one.

@HenryEOliver "Beethoven for a Later Age" by Ed Dusinberre, hands down. He's first violinist for the Takacs Quartet, one of the world's great chamber ensembles, so he's writing from a deep insider's POV. The book is riveting.
