@SandyofCthulhu I think a lot of Euros have difficulty understanding this. I was taught the metric system as well but when people go home and need to use measurements they use imperial. Why? Because imperial is practical. Metric makes sense on paper but in the real world lacks simple utility.

Do Europeans NOT know that Americans are taught how the metric system works in grammar school? We know how long a centimeter is. How long a kilometer is. How much a kilogram weighs. We’re a little shaky on liters.
But we hear about the metric system all the time, and know how to convert. We just don’t do it unless we need to.

❇️ V roce 2013 Miloš Zeman začal otevřeně prosazovat, aby se v angličtině používalo právě „Czechia“. Argument: kratší, srozumitelnější, lépe použitelné v diplomacii, sportu i marketingu. Ano, byl to Zeman. Proto je vtipné, že proti tomu názvu jsou zemanovci.
❇️ V dubnu 2016 se na „Czechia“ shodli nejvyšší ústavní činitelé a vláda. V červenci 2016 byla Czechia zapsána do databází OSN a ISO jako oficiální krátké anglické jméno státu.

Ve velkém se už několik dnů řeší případná invaze USA do Grónska... Podle mě je to úplná blbost. Taková invaze by USA stála nejen spojence v Evropě, ale přinejmenším by je znevěrohodnila i u spojenců kdekoliv jinde na světě. Podle mě je to spíš klasická Trumpova taktika, kdy vsugeruje protistraně nějakou úplnou šílenost (invaze), aby potom jakože "slevil" na nějaký kompromis (obchod), takže to protistrana nakonec vezme jako vlastně přijatelný deal. Není to u něj nic nového, desítky let se takhle choval v byznysu...
A ještě pro případ, že by to fakt spustil (čemuž, znova, absolutně nevěřím), tak to by potřeboval vyšší desítky tisíc vojáků, ne-li statisíce (záleží na ochotě Evropy Grónsko bránit). A úplně vidím, jak američtí vojáci půjdou nadšeně do dobyvačné války mrznout a umírat někam do polární pustiny, kde budou akorát za okupanty. Tam by podle mě byly takové dezerce a třeba i odchody jiných vojáků do civilu, že tomu opravdu nevěřím, že by do toho US administrativa šla...
