@VHautaniemi @rinalu_ You are dodging my question, i was not asking about the USSR, i was asking about today. The fact you can only bring up USSR (a country that ceased to exist 30+years ago) as an answer, just strengthens my original question.

@kaay226 @rinalu_ That's why so many of us fled to the USSR. And more countries wanted to be occupied... Sorry, that was only a dream. A nightmare...

Every time someone mentions Soviet Lithuania, Westerners say one word: occupation. But nobody mentions that the "occupiers" built entire residential districts that look better than most Western housing today. This video from Vilnius proves it - and the contrast is uncomfortable to watch.

That's how it used to be back then when i was in university. Me and my group of friends had different views and had fierce debates, but it never crossed our minds that it could affect our friendship. This changed today, the same people i used to debate with back then, will remove me from their friend list and even block me if i dare to challenge their views.

One of my strongest convictions is that people are vastly more than the sum of their political beliefs and that friendships among people who disagree about politics are not only healthy, but necessary for a complete and empathetic understanding of the world.

@Z1goter @durov Can you provide evidence that this was the reason for his release? Can you provide evidence that an investigation against him is still ongoing? Investigation conducted by whom? And on what charges?

@kaay226 @durov 1. Durov was released because his maximum allowed police questioning period (96 hours) expired. There is no mystery. And investigation against him is still ongoing. 4. Can you name these organizations and link their statements regarding telegram?

Telegram was banned in Russia — yet 50M+ Russians still use it daily via VPNs. The government has spent years trying to ban VPNs too. Their blocking attempts just triggered a massive banking failure — cash briefly became the only payment method nationwide.

Circumstantial evidence only 1. Pavel Durov brags during several interviews, how Western agencies tried to coerce him and threaten him into giving them access to Telegram codes, and how he refused valiantly. 2. Pavel Durov gets arrested in France under serious charges 3. Pavel Durov gets released mysteriously after only few days. 4. Some security entities start claiming that Telegram is no longer safe because all traffic can be accessed by Western authorities. There is no evidence that what Snowden said was true, or any other whistleblower for that matter, but connecting the dots draws a compelling picture.

Many questions are actually implicit statements. Example: "who hurt you?" It implies someone hurt someone, so it's as much a statement as it is a question. Also funny you say i'm confrontational...the kettle calls the pot black. Pro Tip: don't try to look smart when you are not.

I've seen so many people seek happiness in all the wrong places: sex, money, drugs, fame. If philosophy has taught me one thing, it's that happiness doesn't come from those thing. Happiness comes from crushing your opponents with logic.

I just came back from a trip to Japan. The Japanese could figure out how to provide their citizens high speed rail. There’s no reason why we can’t. Don’t let Pierre Poilievre deny Canadians high speed rail. If we need help and advice from the Japanese, let’s get it.

This might seem excessive to an outsider, but this kind of propaganda has already been used as a weapon against Russia (the case of pussy riot). For a country like Russia where population decline is an existential threat, stopping these deviant activities in public places is a must. My problem with Russia is they go hard against such things even when they happen in private spaces. With this i cannot agree, as long as they don't go public, they should be left alone.

URA reports that a court in Kaliningrad has fined the open-air nightclub “Kaup” over alleged “propagation” of BDSM and “non-traditional sexual relations.” The case stems from a 2025 event where a photo zone with BDSM-themed props was set up and made accessible to visitors. The court said the “demonstration of attributes of a psychosexual subculture” could generate interest in such activities, issuing a fine of $10,000. A separate case related to photos and videos posted online from a party at the venue (including images of BDSM props and same-sex kissing) led to an additional $12,500. fine. The court ruled such materials “form non-traditional sexual attitudes.” The ruling, upheld by the Kaliningrad Regional Court, could set a precedent for similar cases in Russia.

@lnkldt @sopjap Really now? Georgia was enjoying the highest subsidy per capita of all the soviet states. Also wonder what's your metric for measuring how much it sucks being poor in different times and places...and political systems.

@sopjap You should visit Bulgaria, Sopo. Being poor sucks everywhere but being poor in Bulgaria today does not suck as much as, say, being poor in Georgia circa 1979 (you may be too young to know).

Bulgaria is always a clear example for me why ‘being in the EU’ doesn’t resolve any of the real problems people face, contrary to Georgian eurofanatics. This liberal prescription is a failed one. ‘Bulgaria’s poverty rate is 37 per cent, among the highest in the EU. Seventy-four per cent of those aged 14 to 29 are considering emigration in pursuit of a higher standard of living. Bulgarian sociologist Jivko Georgiev has sharply diagnosed the impasse: ‘We live in a present so impotent that it lacks the strength to become the past.’ newleftreview.org/sidecar/posts/…

Obama also signed the national defense authorization act which allowed the army to be used against the population. It was unconstitutional and he was sued for it by Chris Hedges, but in the end Obama won (duh). Obama also signed the Schmidt-Mund authorization act, allowing propaganda (psy-op) to be used inside the country. Great president indeed, a true lover of America and it's freedoms.

NATO never was about security though. Mark Rutte and Marco Rubio both stated that NATO is an instrument to project US geopolitical power. NATO countries were used like attack dogs against Yugoslavia, Libya, Afghanistan. The problem is how to get out of NATO without triggering the wrath of the hegemon? What "medium-sized" powers in Europe are trying to do now is too little too late. If they had half a brain, or half a sovereignty, they would stop their self destructive efforts to break Russia.

In my humble opinion, no, you did not get this right. The reasons for attacking Iran were multiple: Grab one more massive oil and gas reserve. Cut an important and vital oil supply for China. Bring the Gulf states to heel by increasing the US military (occupation) presence. So far all seems to point out that things are going rather well for the US. Of course this move poses an immediate existential threat to China, and a future existential threat to Russia, so we'll see how things evolve. Pro Tip: it is essential to stop listening to a single word the orange clown and his cabal are saying. It's all lies with the sole intention of creating confusion.
