At the end of 2010 I was jobless. I had: • No friends • No family • Traveled 15,000KMs from Brisbane, Australia to Toronto, Canada on a ONE way ticket 🛬 I always knew deep down that I wasn't going back "home". 🏡 I had cancelled all my credit cards and closed all my bank accounts. At the airport saying goodbye to my family I knew this would be the last time I would ever set foot in my home country as an actual resident. The next time and forever I would be a visitor. When I arrived in Toronto I was nervously excited. I had to start my life a new. It was the ultimate put yourself in a no-choice situation and sink or swim. But I was confident. I KNEW deep down that I would survive and succeed. Everything I had learned in my life, my failures, my decisions, my successes all brought me to this turning point in life on August 6th, 2010. I needed to set up my new life and only had enough $ to survive for about 3 months. The most important foundation I needed was a job. Ironically, that was the easy part, the hardest part was actually making new friends as an adult but I'll save that for another story 😆 I applied for a number of jobs but it only took one. One phone call, one company and the foundation for the rest of my life to begin. Within 1 month I became a Digital Analytics Analyst at the largest communications company in the country. I breathed a sigh of relief under my exterior excitement for a new job. It had begun. The rest of my new life. It's no lie that the biggest risks provide the opportunities for the biggest rewards. I took the leap. Today I have: • A loving wife • Cute energetic 3 year old son • Amazing friends who are also my second family • 6 figure job All because I took that chance and felt the confidence to go for it. Every experience and decision we've made up to today has equipped us to build the life we want. We just need to start using what we have or start filling the gaps of what we don't in order to succeed.
