@post_liberal I just re-read The Chronicles of Prydain, which I read for the first time in 3rd or 4th grade. Or, over 40 years ago. While the current generation is not unique for how they venerated the source material, they are for how they expect YOU to also worship it.

@post_liberal The difference is, we read Roald Dahl, and then read lots of other authors. Kids today are reading Harry Potter... And nothing else. It's not a gateway to other kid lit. It's a fixation that parents aren't breaking kids out of.

Look, at this point, no charges stuck, we’ve forgiven a lot, can we just get Kevin Spacey back in movies? Hell, the stories just play into his inherent simpering creepiness. I’m sure he’s awful but I just want some good actors again.

@chrisspangle Streaming overcomitted during the pandemic and the services became too many with too little quality. People would rather watch good legacy content than suffer through figuring out if something new is even worthwhile.

No one seems to be talking about the total collapse of the television industry. Cable channels no longer make shows. Streaming services are starting to massively cut back. Now broadcast is killing staple programming.

Wife brought up the Jennifer Love Hewitt story this morning and said it might make a good topic. I'll save it for when she's on the show tomorrow. I'm not as beautiful as I once was. Aging changes you. No shit. Karate helped me, but time waits for no man or no woman. It sucks the first time someone calls you old as a slur, but the sooner you deal with it, and accept it, the sooner you find happiness in a new phase of your life. Some might choose to be young again but I've got the best years of my life happening now, even with back pain and the stress of adulting. I used to trade on my looks a little, but I remember after doing my first modeling job how much I disliked it and I remember thinking I had to develop real skills so I wasn't locked in to being a stupid mannequin for others to build their fortunes on. Using my mind and riding on my spirit was the only way to succeed long term. That's the only way for any of us to get beyond being known for something other than being young and beautiful once.

@seanmdav Nearly 1/3 of America's land mass spoke a language other than English before we annexed those territories. And let's not even start on the number of 20th century immigrants who never learned English. Boston's North End is full of them. Still.

As a Mayflower descendant and a Son of the American Revolution, I believe America is for Americans. This is a nation and a people, not a global business park or an international Costco, and if you aren’t willing to adopt American language, culture, and custom as your own, you can go somewhere else.

Just watched Dial of Destiny for the third time. When you're completely rid of expectations, the film works well. The action scenes are still poorly filmed and edited, but as a whole, it gave Indiana Jones the send-off he deserved.

@EddieTrunk There's other elements here: 1. Concert support wages went way up post pandemic because of unpredictable work. 2. Insurance costs also went through the roof. 3. The secondary market isn't just scalping. The ticket sellers hold back tons of tickets to gauge demand and arbitrage.

This is obscene . Especially for stadium level shows. For any shows ! For an artist as iconic as he is clearly does not need the money! But the issue is if you sell at a lower price then the scalping sites charge this much and the artist doesn’t see the money. Only one solution for prices to come down. Fans don’t buy unless the price is reasonable. If fans pay it , will never change. And it blows my mind daily what fans are willing to pay. Thus it just keeps getting pushed higher and higher

@erikkain @Forbes I just watched it again. The fact that there are direct quotes from the original novel make me very optimistic that this will hew closely to the original text... Which was sadly all too prescient 40 years ago.

@BamaDude77 @erikkain @Forbes Superman III and IV were terrible. Superman Returns was horrible casting all around, and a truly lame plot and premise. Both Snyder films were not good. Cavill, Costner & Lane were well cast, and the 'early years' of Clark's life were good, but Crowe & Eisenberg were awful.

@mellowship52264 @erikkain @Forbes Superman's best asset is that despite being "perfect", he too has flaws and makes bad decisions, especially at a personal level. That's what made the first two Reeve films work. And why nothing else has since.
