My thoughts after 70+ hours of Crimson Desert. I knew right away that journalists would not rate this game as high as it deserves. If you're given limited time and need to power through a game like this to review it for your boss, you will resent it. In fact, I resented it after the first couple hours. But once I began to understand the systems, adjust to the controls and get a bit more comfortable with the game, it quickly became something I could not put down. I was thinking about Crimson Desert 24/7. Truthfully, the only real pain points of this game are the controls and systems and occasional clunkiness. But once you get some hours in, all of that goes away and you're left with a truly remarkable experience. No game before this has matched this level of wonder and exploration and this level of pure scale, while also simply being FUN to play. At first I thought that there was no way that they could cram all of these systems and mechanics into one game and make it feel satisfying and cohesive, but they somehow pulled it off. Take your time with Crimson Desert, be patient and intentional with your time with the game, and you'll be rewarded handsomely. 🌩️

@MrHooboMaster I don't listen to Youtubers either but from what little I've seen they generally are closer to realistic views of gamers. They don't have to maintain a relationship w studios to stay relevant. Journos have a clear track record of scoring awful games high & solid games terribly

So I gotta ask.. Why do youtubers that do the exact same thing as "game journalists" (but in video form) think they're somehow superior to game journalists? If anything youtubers in general has less education and a way more reasons to outright lie to get liked and easy views.

@thomasmahler Critic reviews don't matter and haven't for a long time in the eyes of the consumer. IGN gave Crimson Desert a 6. Same guy who gave that score gave Concord and Highguard 7s. It's more important to figure out why people give their scores and what they consider good/bad relatively.

It’s a bit disturbing to see how many players were insanely hyped for Crimson Desert until today and how quickly opinions have shifted now - hell, I think most people saw it as the potential new Elden Ring 😳 But now the reviews have come in and it sits on a 78 on Metacritic. And to most gamers, that means it’s pretty much a waste of time. But then I listened to @ForceStrategy’s breakdown, a reviewer who’s usually spot on, and he had a ton of good things to say about it - as long as you come in with the right expectations. It was honestly quite silly to expect the team that was in charge of BDO to build the next Elden Ring… but based on what Force was saying, I could easily see them still turning things around. I think in general I love the games industry for of how passionate everyone is about games - but it also feels like games get overhyped so often that it’s becoming a bit ridiculous… So… give them some time. There’s definitely something interesting going on with Pearl Abyss. For some reason, they know how to generate a ton of hype. I remember how insanely excited people were about DokeV when they showed a trailer at Gamescom a few years back. So I’d say… chill and let’s see how they’re reacting to this feedback. Will definitely be interesting to follow! 👍

@thomasmahler The only people I've seen say anything have been the same people who were crying about not seeing any base ps5 footage. Those same people were never going to buy the game no matter what. I literally dont know a single real gamer who takes media outlets reviews seriously

It's not a very good look to make a reactionary post that broadcasts to everyone that your opinion is entirely shaped by public discourse instead of your own actual beliefs. Whether you love AI or absolutely hate it... waiting to hear what the crowd thinks before you decide to share your opinion means you don't actually have an opinion at all. You are just waiting to see what others think so you can shape your coverage around what will be most "accepted".
