I'm very grateful that the House has passed the DHS funding bill that was sent over by the Senate. This is a major step forward to secure our nation and take care of our people who take care of us. To finish the job, Senate and House Republicans must pass the reconciliation bill that fully funds ICE and Border Patrol through the rest of President Trump's term. As Senate Budget Committee Chairman, I am determined to get this done. Failure is not an option.

The vast majority of Republicans stuck together to do something Democrats are refusing to do: Fully fund the Border Patrol and ICE for three and a half years through the Trump presidency. As Senate Budget Committee Chairman, I am very proud of my colleagues. Adopting the budget resolution will allow the Senate Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees to write a reconciliation bill that spends $70 billion so we can continue to enforce immigration laws and have the most secure border in modern history. Democrats’ refusal to fund ICE and Border Patrol at a time of growing threats to our nation is one of the most irresponsible decisions I’ve witnessed since I’ve been in the Senate. The bottom line is that Republicans in Congress are going to work with President Trump to get the job done by June 1.

We’ll be voting through the night tonight in the Senate to start a process that will end the DHS shutdown, support law enforcement, and enhance border security. We need to get this passed and fund these critical agencies.

President Trump’s budget is truly historic when it comes to defense spending. It is the most robust increase in defense spending in many years, and it is more than justified by the threats we face throughout the world. When it comes to our national security, @POTUS and his team are second to none.
