Government schools spend $21,456 per child per year. Imagine if that money went directly to families instead. A teacher could set up a microschool with just 14 students and pull in $300,384 a year.

@jenteach13 Don’t assume every home is a traditional home with not a Mother and Father under one roof. If the parents are divorced, the kids maybe moving back and forth. Also, the kids may be in a foster home. Worst scenario, and there are many, some children may be homeless.

Nobody talks about the parent who never once asked their kid if they had homework. Not once in a semester. Not once in the school year. The teacher emailed. The teacher called. The teacher sent the progress reports home. Nobody on the other end was paying attention. We talk about teacher accountability every single day, but we don't hold parents to the same standard.

@jenteach13 prior to high school, homework is almost always an utter waste of time. You have kids for 7 hours a day. That's plenty of time. Homework is just teachers offloading their responsibilities onto parents.

I've got lots of kids. One doesn't like to do their assignments. I've presented myself at the beginning of every school year, explaining this is my difficult child and asked for all of the above. ZERO TEACHERS IN HER MANY YEARS OF EDUCATION HAVE BOTHERED TO REACH OUT TO ME. Even when I've PLEADED. The idea that teachers "email, call home, or send reports" is a dang lie.
