No, ballistic comparisons are used to prove that a bullet was fired from a specific rifle barrel by the unique grooves cut into the bullet casing when fired. It's much more common in hand gun rounds because pistol rounds usually survive intact, whereas rifle bullets don't due to the sheer energy at impact breaking apart the bullet.

@allenanalysis Rifle bullets simply don't remain intact for ballistic analysis to match to a barrel (unless by some miracle they pass through the victims soft tissues and land in water). The news about the bullet is a nothing-burger.
